Industry Roundup: Banderas to Direct Solo

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

?

? Not a Duo: Antonio Banderas will direct “a psychological thriller with sci-fi touches turning on a Spanish colonel suffering post-conflict trauma” for his Green Moon production company. The movie will be called Solo, and Erik Jendresen wrote its screenplay. It will start shooting in his native Spain next year, in English. “Unfortunately, to reach large international markets, you have to shoot in English,” Banderas said at a festival this past weekend. [Variety]

Family Gal: Alex Borstein, who both writes for Family Guy and does the voice of Lois, signed a two-series deal with 20th Century Fox. She will write, develop, and produce a live-action series and an animated series. Executives believe that one of these projects will be an “off-center, comedian-centered comedy series, such as Roseanne and Seinfeld, that broadcasters used to excel at creating.” [HR]

Return From Zion: ABC just became the fourth network to add a show with Israeli roots to its roster, signing the project Tall and Greenbaum after seeing the pilot of the Israeli version of the new show. It’s about two guys and a production company that films small gatherings like Bar Mitzvahs. (One of the main characters cheats on his wife.) They “do their best to juggle their business and complicated personal lives, sometimes with disastrous results.” [Deadline]

Negotiations: In 2008, Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt was rescued by soldiers, ending a six-year hostage situation in the South American jungle. Soon after, she went through a bitter divorce from her husband Juan Carlos Lecompte, who had been waiting for her. They both wrote books on their separate ordeals, and now they both successfully sold movie rights to their story. Betty Kaplan acquired the rights to Lecompte’s books about the couple’s time apart (although not the one about the divorce), and her treatment will focus on Lecompte’s “love and the search for Betancourt throughout her captivity.” Kathleen Kennedy acquired the rights to Bentancourt’s book, which is about her experience of her time in captivity. With the fourth season of Mad Men all wrapped up, creator Matthew Weiner is getting back to work on directing his first feature film, You Are Here. Last year, before production on the film went on hold, Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, and Jennifer Aniston were attached to star. Now Jack Black, Matt Dillon, and Renee Zellwegger will take their places, in a movie that does not sound at all like Mad Men! The film is about two thirtysomething roommates

Jennifer Lawrence Talks About Playing Mystique In X-Men: First Class

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

The Winter’s Bone star speaks briefly about playing the shapeshifting Mutant in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming prequel..
Speaking to Hollywood Elsewhere, the young actress revealed that we won’t be seeing too much of her as the blue comic version of Mystique, but that when she did appear she would be donning the scales and dye job from the previous X movies..

From Hollywood Elsewhere..

Only 10% of her screen time will be as Mystique, she said. It takes X-Men: First Class makeup artists about six hours to transform her into Mystique with the blue skins and the scales, she added. (She has a nickname for the process or the makeup or whatever — “Mystink.”) I asked if official photos have been taken, and she said the idea was to keep her appearance under wraps until just before the film’s release. I said if the world has to wait until next summer for a shot, fine, but if an un-approved shot makes it onto the web I won’t be sorry.

Still no un-approved shots unfortunately, but we do have this artists rendition of what Lawrence may look like transforming into Mystique..

Hide Your Popcorn! Blubberella is Coming to Theaters!

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

The official synopsis is not any kinder with how they describe the first female fat superhero.

Uwe Boll really isn’t saying much about his Horror Comedy featuring the first Fat Chick Superhero!

A pic and an official synopsis has been let loose, but that’s about it.

Synopsis:
The first female fat superhero … She will kick major ass – with her major ass …

This is the first time someone has stuck their neck out to promote a true ‘fatty’ movie. At least this time all the critics cant bitch about the lead character being to thin, like ‘Becky, look at her waist, you know she just went back into her trailer and threw her lunch up!’ The comment on the Blubberella set would be more like ‘Holy Sh&t, it looks like Blubberella just ate the skinny lead actress that walked into her trailer and just threw her lunch up! One Bite, WOW, that Blubberella, she’s not much for conversation but she sure sweats a lot!’

Did I wake up on April Fools Day? I think I did!

Lucasfilm Denies Star Wars Trilogy Rumor

Stan Lee Talks Captain America Cameo, Hulk TV Show And Andrew Garfield!

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

The comic book creator reveals that he’s still not been contacted about a cameo in Captain America and shares his thoughts on a new Hulk TV series and Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man…

On A Cameo In Captain America: The First Avenger:

“I don’t know. They’re filming it in London and I don’t have the time to go there. Now if they shoot any scenes here in the States, I’m sure that I will be in one of them. But I wouldn’t imagine that they’re going to change their whole shooting schedule just to accommodate my cameo, so your guess is as good as mine at the moment.”

On The Prospects Of A New Hulk TV Series:

“Oh that’s very exciting, and I think it’ll probably be very good. I can’t wait to see it.”

On Andrew Garfield Being Cast As Spider-Man:

“I’m not that familiar with him, but if the powers that be chose him, I’m sure he’ll be good. You remember when Tobey Maguire was first selected, most of the fans were angry. They felt, what kind of a guy is that for a superhero? Nobody thought it was a good idea. Yet he turned out to be great. The people at Marvel who do these things are really pretty smart. If they chose this guy, he’ll probably be terrific.”

Marvel Studios

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

Although the news that broke last night seemed to hint at the movie being put on indefinite hold, Bleeding Cool have the details on when production will start as well as when it’ll be released…
Yesterday evening, Deadline reported that, “Marvel simply has too much going on at the moment and will take its time on the live action adaptation.” While many assumed that meant it would be a long time until work on the movie started, Bleeding Cool have learned that that’s not the case and it wont be that long until the teenage superheroes make their way onto the big screen.

“But Bleeding Cool can very happily and exclusively reveal that this is not the case. The film still has a scheduled shoot, it

Liam Neeson Replaces Mel Gibson in

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

Liam Neeson will replace Mel Gibson as the tattoo artist in The Hangover Part II.

Gibson was cast then let go from the part, described as “pivotal” to the movie by those who have read the script.

While the original movie revolved around a Las Vegas bachelor party that devolves into a drunken lost weekend, the follow-up tracks the same stars — Bradley Cooper, Zack Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha — on a misbegotten trip to Bangkok, Thailand.

The tattoo artist is one of the characters the guys need to track down during their adventures. The character is described as “crazy” and “intense,” “someone you’re afraid to talk to.” It is unclear if the part will be altered to incorporate the sensibilities of Neeson.

The actor’s deal hasn’t technically closed but the actor is already in L.A.

It was Cooper, who starred with Neeson in this summer’s “The A-Team” that was instrumental in getting Neeson the part.

Gibson’s casting, when made public earlier this week, triggered an internal backlash at the studio and on the film set. Zach Galifianakis appears to be one of those who objected to Gibson, whose anti-Semitic, racist and misogynist rants have made him radioactive in some Hollywood circles, when he said on a podcast last week, “I’m in deep protest right now about a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something.”

Five-0! CBS gives full seasons to

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

CBS is going five-for-five: The network is giving full season orders to all of its freshman shows: The Defenders, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods, $#*! My Dad Says and Mike & Molly.
What’s more, each of the pickups is earned: All of the shows have performed competitively in their time periods, with Hawaii, Molly and $#*! averaging above a 3.0 in the adults 18-49 rating.
The pickup reflects a strong performance by CBS this fall, which has had the broadcaster in first place for the first month of the season.
“It’s personally thrilling and extremely satisfying,” CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler told The Hollywood Reporter. “I like kept walking around the halls going, ‘I want 5 for 5.’”
Tassler credits the network’s strong development this year, promotion and smart scheduling moves.
The pickups do give the network a luxury problem, however — fitting the network’s midseason shows into the schedule. Tassler wouldn’t rule out reducing the episode orders for some. CBS isn’t announcing how many episodes of each show was ordered, sources say $#*! may only be for six episodes instead of the customary nine, plus three scripts. Hawaii received back nine plus two scripts.
“We’re looking at all possible ideas,” Tassler said. “It’s not just about filling slots but launching a successful midseason schedule.”
For midseason, the network has comedy Mad Love, Paula Abdul’s reality show Live to Dance and the dramas Chaos and the Criminal Minds spinoff.
The ratings to date: Hawaii has averaged 14.2 million and a 4.1 adults 18-49 rating; Blue has averaged 12.7 million and a 2.2; Defenders 11.3 million and a 2.8; Molly 12.3 million and 4.1 and $#*! 11.3 million and 3.5.

Stephen Norrington Departs The Crow

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

Director Stephen Norrington is no longer attached to The Crow, reports Mania.com.

When approached for comment about casting rumors, Norrington told the site that he was off the project, following the demands of an unnamed actor to completely overhaul the script (which Norrington had drafted and which was rewritten by Nick Cave).

“As I had gotten involved explicitly as a writer-director my exit was inevitable,” says Norrington, “I was bummed. I had developed a genuinely authentic take that respected the source material while moving beyond it, and Nick Cave came in and added more depth. I think the fans would have been pleasantly surprised.”

The current status of the project is unknown but it will presumably move forward with a different creative vision.

Bryan Singer Wants Aaron Johnson To Kill Giants!

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

Could Aaron Johnson bring the same intensity to Jack as he did to Kick Ass?

Of course he could. It is a totally different movie but why not. At least that’s what the fans will think. Maybe not the ‘ComicBookMovie Fan’ but the ‘Normal Movie Goer Fan’. What’s the difference you may ask? Well, that’s an entirely different article in its self. Back on task.

Deadline is reporting that Bryan Singer is ‘sweet’ on Aaron Johnson (WEIRD). Rumor has it that Andrew Garfield is up for the role as well.

Bryan Singer had to turn down ‘X-Men: First Class’ due to his commitment with ‘Jack the Giant Killer’.

Hey, I didn’t want the first comment to be ‘This isn’t even a Comic Book J-Man, oh my goodness this site is losing it’s integrity, waaaa waaaaa waaaaaa’, so there, see I fixed all that already:)
