Not a lot of shocks at this year’s Oscars. As you can see below, all the movies (and actors) that were expected to walk away with the big prizes did for the most part, and despite the odd few surprises the results are far from shocking. However, despite Christopher Nolan being snubbed for ‘Best Director’ and Andrew Garfield shamefully not recieving a nod for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ in
TheOneRing got an exclusive set of photos that show off production tests on a barrel riding scene from The Hobbit movie.
These photos show off production testing a scene for the barrel scenes for The Hobbit movie.
Here is a quote from the photographer…
Just sending you a few pics of the activity going on at the Aratiatia Rapids where they have started filming for the barrell scenes in The Hobbit, they had heaps of safety people there as pretty dangerous stuff, mostly all wound up when I took the pics, but shows the barrels they were using for when the Bilbo Baggins and the dwarves, rode the rapids in barrels to get away from the orcs I think it was. the barrels are pink so as to allow for them being digitalized apparently. the hyab truck was in place to maybe film up the rapids, anyway, they used both ends of the rapids to do the job, as you will see. there are big barrels on the truck, plus a small one, I guess for scaling for Hobbit size?? A couple of pics also of the crew, both safty and filming by the looks of it having smoko.
Hot on the heels of the news that Viggo Mortenson is a “person of interest” for WB and Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, the rumor mill has churned out Daniel Day Lewis’ name. Click for the details..
So we hear Viggo Mortenson is being looked at to star as the villain(probably General Zod) in the Superman reboot. But who else might Snyder and WB have their eye on? Well, it could well be the most brilliant of actors, Mr Daniel Day Lewis.
Moviehole mention that they heard Warner Bros. is considering Lewis for

“CONAN THE BARBARIAN” FILM
We’ve been following this movie for a while and I like what I’ve seen so far. Jake Gyllenhaal is money and I dig the sci-fi time conundrum thing thats going on. It’s almost like a video game type scenario where you keep playing until you get it right. Good concept. Check it out below…
When decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. In an assignment unlike any he’s ever known, he learns he’s part of a government experiment called the “Source Code,” a program that enables him to cross over into another man’s identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack. Filled with mind-boggling twists and heart-pounding suspense, Source Code is a smart action-thriller directed by Duncan Jones (Moon) also starring Michelle Monaghan (Eagle Eye, Due Date), Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air, The Departed), and Jeffrey Wright (Quantum of Solace, Syriana).
With the Oscar buzz going this weekend as we all prepare to watch the Academy Awards on my birthday this Monday, I was deemed lucky enough to take in a movie that in no way embodies the stature and grace of the films being honored at this year’s ceremony. Drive Angry 3D is a balls to the wall, explosive knee-capping joyride of fun. Now I know that this movie is not going to be for everyone, especially if you can’t handle hands being blown off with shotguns, knees exploding, and lots of naked women, bur for me scenes in this movie bring back fond memories of little Kevin enjoying the hell out of Robocop and the Terminator.
A vengeful father escapes from hell and chases after the men who killed his daughter and kidnapped his granddaughter.
Now that plot really is all the movie is about, it’s flimsy at best and the writers know this. By time the first line of dialog is spoken by Milton(Nicolas Cage), I and the audience knew the kind of movie this was going to be a great grindhouse movie in quality 3D, with some of the best worst lines I’ve ever heard uttered by A-list actors on film. My personal favorite? “I’d shot you in the throat and watch you gurgle while I eat my grapefruit.”
All the actors in this film do a great job of taking their riddicuos characters seriously enough that with these horrid lines sell some great comedic elements that make this film a must see for any action movie junkie that can love a film that tries to be bad and is all the better for it. The lovely Amber Heard, plays a great hard nosed girl that cares and looks so damn hot on screen. For most that’s reason to see it all-together, but she does a good job of bringing the fun as well as the hot. Billy Burke as satanist cult leader Jonah King is so perfect for his part that I can’t wait to see him again, and of course the best lines in the film are reserved for that bad ass of bad asses William Fichtner, as The Accountant sent from hell to bring Milton back.
Writers Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer on set
The 3D in this film was about what you’d expect from director Patrick Lussier (director of My Bloody Valentine 3D, and the new Halloween III), and together with son Devin C. Lussier they edit together some great car chase/gun battle/crazy shit scenes that made me feel a little dizzy even in the opening shots of the film. So if you get motion sick very easily I’d suggest not watching this in 3D, or at least not the first 5 minutes or so. So how do you know you’ll like this movie, as much as I did? Well I’ve included below, one of the most talked about scenes that was in this film, and I feel it sums up the movie perfectly.
Till next time gang, enjoy your weekend at the box office, and remember if you have to drive, Drive Angry!
I’ve been looking forward to seeing this movie since it was announced. The first one is one of my favorite movies and not just because it’s super awesome and funny but also because it features 3 of my favorite actors as well. I’ll let you figure out who they are but here’s a hint, They are all 3 featured in the trailer below. There’s not a lot going on in this trailer but it is a teaser so just enjoy being teased…
Rockstar released box art for one of it’s most anticipated games of 2010 and now 2011 today and I’m not super impressed with it.??? It’s pretty basic fare with nothing special going on. Certainly wouldn’t grab my eye if I was perusing the game stores and came across it. Then again it’s whats under the hood that counts and this one looks pretty good. check out the trailer below.
Set amid the violence and corruption of post-World War II Los Angeles, L.A. Noire is a crime thriller that seamlessly blends crime-solving, clue-finding, car chases and shoot-outs with revolutionary new interrogation-based gameplay that will allow players to read characters’ emotions in order to reveal the truth. Players will take on the role of Cole Phelps, a decorated war veteran, who rises through the ranks of the LAPD by solving a series of gruesome murders and other crimes that bring him face-to-face with the dark heart of Los Angeles during Hollywood’s Golden Age.
I recently had a chance to check this movie out and I really dug it. It was smart, funny, and full of pop cultural sci-fi references much like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Here is the red band trailer focusing on some of the cruder moments in the film, enjoy and check it out when it hits theaters in March.
Here is the first film clip from Battle: Los Angeles. The clip is titled Boxed In, and in the clip Sergeant Michael Nantz and his marines have fallen into an alien ambush. The more I see from this movie the more I’m looking forward to checking this out. I really dig the frantic action and the sense of danger that’s been captured in this clip. It feels very similar to Kingdom which did a great job capturing the franticness of war.
For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world – Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It’s up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they’ve ever encountered before.
Battle: Los Angeles is set to be released on March 11, 2011…
I’m a big fan of behind the scenes featurettes especially FX breakdowns so I was super stoked to share this. I haven’t seen HEREAFTER yet but seeing the FX work on this reel makes me want to check it out…
A drama centered on three people — a blue-collar American, a French journalist and a London school boy — who are touched by death in different ways.
Bill Murray was a phone-in guest at The Howard Stern Show yesterday, and he addressed a number of issues that he’s never really talked about before — including the fact that he hasn’t yet gotten around to reaing the Ghostbusters 3 script that had been sent to him last year.
What follows is a Ghostbusters 3-centric excerpt from that interview:
