DC Comics Plans Seven Book Prequel For ‘Watchmen’ :

Posted on 01 February 2012 by Christian

DC is returning to the world of ‘Watchmen’ with a seven book prequel series called ‘Before Watchmen’.

The publisher plans to release a graphic novel each week that will focus on the characters’ lives and adventures in the years before ‘Watchmen’.

It promises that each issue of the mini-series will be inter-connected with each other and build on the mythology of the best-selling graphic novel.

“It’s our responsibility as publishers to find new ways to keep all of our characters relevant,” say DC Entertainment co-publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee. “After 25 years, the Watchmen are classic characters whose time has come for new stories to be told.”

“We sought out the best writers and artists in the industry to build on the complex mythology of the original.”

The characters the prequel will focus include Rorschach, Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl, Ozymandias, Silk Spectre, Comedian and the Minutemen.

‘Watchmen’, created by writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons, was originally published by DC Comics between 1986 and 1987. In 2010, Moore revealed that DC offered to give him the rights to ‘Watchmen’ back if he would agree to prequel and sequel projects.

At the time, Moore said that “if they said that 10 years ago, when I asked them for that, then yeah it might have worked but these days I don’t want Watchmen back. Certainly, I don’t want it back under those kinds of terms.”

Though Moore has no involvement in the new prequel project, Gibbons has given the idea his blessing.

“The original series of Watchmen is the complete story that Alan Moore and I wanted to tell. However, I appreciate DC’s reasons for this initiative and the wish of the artists and writers involved to pay tribute to our work. May these new additions have the success they desire,” says Gibbons.

Image Comics to create their own comic book convention: Image Expo coming in 2012

Posted on 23 November 2011 by Christian

It was announced today that Image comics, the house of Spawn and The Walking Dead, will create their very own comic book convention: Image Expo to launch in February of 2012…the company that shook the comic book industry is at it again.

Back in 1992, 7 comic book creators Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, Marc Silvestri, Erik Larsen, Jim Valentino and Whilce Portacio left Marvel Comics in an ongoing dispute over creator controls and royalties. Thus Image Comics was created and went on to creat characters such as Spawn, The Maxx, Savage Dragon and The Walking Dead. Image Comics succeeded in shaking up the Comic Book industry and opening it up for independent companies to thrive. Now, Image is at it again. The company just announced that they will be launching their own Comic Book/Creator convention in California to launch in February 2012. With the recent success of The Walking Dead as one of cable television’s highest rated shows and the up coming movie projects for Spawn and Youngblood, image seems to be capitalizing on the growing business of conventions around the country. Will this then limit the big guns (McFarlane, Kirkman) from appearing at other conventions. Will Image now hold their major announcements for their own convention? Does anybody really care?

Read the full press release from Image comics with upcoming guests, convention schedule and where to sign up to attend and exhibit…click the pick below.

Syfy has ordered a pilot script from Fringe writer Andrew Kreisberg for a small screen adaptation of Booster Gold. We have all the details on the creative talent behind the show as well as details on its premise here.

The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively revealed SyFy’s plans for a small screen adaptation of Booster Gold. The network has reportedly ordered a pilot script for what will be a one-hour drama from Fringe writer Andrew Kreisberg. Greg Berlanti’s production company will oversee the project in association with Warner Horizon Television. It will credit both Berlanti (Green Lantern, No Ordinary Family) and Kreisberg as executive producers. DC Comics are expected to receive similar credit.

They also reveal a few details about the premise of the planned series.

The story will center on Booster Gold, a washed-up athlete from the future who travels back to the present in hopes of becoming the greatest super hero of all time. Bill Paxton Set To Direct Big Screen Version Of Kung Fu

Posted on 01 November 2011 by Christian

Now not the Marvel comics character Shang-Chi, but a movie version of the ’70s Tv show which starred David Carradine and also had a comic book series. Deadline have the details..

I’m sure any CBMer of a certain age, or even those wise enough to catch some re-runs, remember the Kung Fu Tv series fondly. It starred the late David Carradine as a Shaolin Monk possessed of great martial arts skills as he wanders the American wild west in search of his brother, adventure and enlightenment. It was pretty damn awesome. And now Legendary Entertainment are bringing us a big screen version with none other than Hudson himself at the helm..

Bill Paxton is in talks to direct Kung Fu, a screen adaptation of the classic 1972 TV series that starred David Carradine. Paxton, who

COMICS: Marvel Reveals Plans For Ongoing Dexter Series By Creator Jeff Lindsey!

Posted on 17 October 2011 by Christian

They may now be owned by Disney, but that doesn’t mean Marvel have gone soft! At yesterday’s “Cup ‘O Joe” panel, it was revealed that the creator of the TV show will write an ongoing comic book series featuring the serial killer…

Well, this should please fans of Dexter! However, if like me you prefer the TV show over the novels, this may not come as such great news due to the fact that the planned comic book series will be written by the creator of the character and set in the world of Jeff Lindsey’s books – and as you may know, they’re pretty different from the Showtime series starring Michael C. Hall! Many thanks to Comic Book Resources for the following.

The panel wrapped with Quesada saying, “I don’t know if you guys are fans of this little series called ‘Dexter’…” He then revealed that novelist Jeff Lindsay will bring the popular character to comics with an all-new ongoing series with new stories set in the world of the “Dexter” novels (as opposed to the TV series).

And thanks to the guys over at Bleeding Cool for this photo taken at the panel in New York.

Seattle “Superhero” Phoenix Jones Arrested

Posted on 11 October 2011 by Christian

Inspired by DC Comics Hero Nightwing and with two years on the job, Seattle’s Phoenix Jones is arrested for the first time.

Phoenix and his sidekicks are claiming that they jumped into action once they saw a group of people kicking a defenseless man on the ground. However, it looks like the tables were turned and once Phoenix pulled out some pepper spray on the rowdy group, he was the one to be arrested for assault. The group in question also claims that there was no man being beaten on the ground, but that they were:

“dancing and having a good time when they were attacked by the masked man in black and yellow body armor.”

To add further insult to injury, the Seattle police released “Phoenix Jones” true identity to the public after the altercation which Jones states not only puts his family at risk but his daytime job of working with autistic kids in jeopardy.

There is a glimmer of hope that Jones can be vindicated as he was travelling with a freelance reporter that evening taking video recordings (click the link below for video).

Like the article says…”this would never happen to Batman”…
