Three More Sundance Movies Get Sold

Posted on 26 January 2011 by Christian

A number of deals went down at Sundance yesterday: The Weinstein Company bought The Details, starring Spider-Man co-stars Tobey Maguire and Elizabeth Banks as an unhappily married couple dealing with a raccoon infestation and cat lady neighbor Laura Linney, for $7.5 million. Sony Pictures Classic purchased The Guard, a dark comedy in which Don Cheadle and Brendan Gleeson take on drug smugglers, for $1 million. And Fox Searchlight nabbed the sci-fi drama Another Earth, about a woman who sees a new planet, causes the death of a family in a car accident, and starts a relationship with the surviving father, with the aforementioned planet remaining important throughout the film. Sounds Sundance-y! [DeadlineRisky Business/HRDeadline]

Kevin Smith turns Sundance on it’s head…

Posted on 24 January 2011 by TH3 No08

There was a lot of hype and hyperbole leading up to Kevin Smith’s premiere of Red State at Sundance and all that quickly became an afterthought when Smith told Hollywood to go fuck itself and bought his own distribution right for 20$. Smith had announced earlier in the year that he would auction of the rights to his movie directly after the premiere and drew a ton of interest for what was sure to be a public spectacle and did not disappoint.

When can you see Red State? Well if you’re willing to shell out anywhere from  $50 – $100 you can see it starting in March.  Smith is hoping his fans will flock to see the personalized experience of him and the star doing a live chat after watching the movie and this will somehow help him make back his 4 million dollar budget before it ever goes into theaters this fall without doing traditional marketing of press.

See all the details here.

Here is the full list of dates and locations:

March 5th – Radio City Music Hall
March 6th – Wilbur Theater in Boston
March 8th – Harris Theater in Chicago
March 9th – State Theater in Minneapolis
March 10th – Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor
March 11th – Indianapolis, IN
March 12th - Midland Theater, Kansas City
March 14th – Springfield, OH
March 22nd – Paramount Theater, Denver
March 26th - McCalister theater, New Orleans
