STAR WARS: Volkswagen Debut Their Full Super Bowl Ad

Posted on 01 February 2012 by Christian

Found this cool article over at ComicBookMovies and wanted to share..

We have seen the teaser with dogs barking the Imperial March, now check out the full commercial. It doesn’t seem to be Star Wars related at first, but keep watching..

I despise a good 99% of all product commercials but when they are funny/cool it lessens my ire a bit. These Volkswagen ones have tied into Star Wars in some pretty awesome ways so they get a pass. Anyway, we have seen the little boy Vader, and the teaser featuring dogs barking the Imperial March. Now check out the full Super Bowl spot which once again features a pooch – and then veers off into Star Wars territory in a pretty strange but very funny way..

Ferris Bueller Sells Out for the Super Bowl…

Posted on 30 January 2012 by TH3 No08

Last week we were treated to a teaser for a Ferris Bueller project that set the internet on fire. It was speculated that it was everything from a reboot to a sequel to a television series. Most actually realized what it was early on when the date on the teaser matched up with the Super Bowl. Well here’s your first look at that Super Bowl commercial as Ferris Bueller sells his soul for a Honda ad. Yes they re-enacted major portions of the movie and substituted a Honda for the car used in the original. Now that I’ve ruined it for you by spoiling it feel free to watch Ferris Bueller sell out for some Honda Money.

To celebrate the launch of the all-new 2012 CR-V, Honda brought Ferris Bueller’s Day Off back in a big game commercial. We cast Matthew Broderick as himself, skipping out on a day of acting work and living it up in his all-new CR-V. Relive movie history with Honda’s fresh twist and wonderful homage to this ’80s classic.

NBC to pick up Office spin off

Posted on 26 January 2012 by TH3 No08

As the Office series is winding down and slowly losing steam to the point that they haven’t been picked up for next season word is coming down that NBC will be keeping the one of the main characters alive by spinning the series off and giving Rainn Wilson his own series. The spin off will purportedly take place in and around Shrute Farms and the life and times of Dwight Schrute. We may get an early look at the show during an episode of the Office later this season.

Darabont discusses what might have been with this season of The Walking Dead

Posted on 09 January 2012 by TH3 No08

There’s been an interesting/convoluted story floating around the internet for the last couple of weeks that has finally been addressed and brings to the fore front what might have been had Darabont never been fired from TWD. It started with a rumor regarding a supposed web series that would tell the back story of the dead soldier in the tank in episode 2 of season one into what would could have eventually become the season 2 opener. Here’s a video of Sam Witwer, the guy who played the dead soldier, discussing his part in what could have happened.

With all the rumors floating around Darabont felt it was important to address his adoring public through Quint from aintitcool.com. Here’s what he had to say regarding what could have been had he not been fired.

Dear Eric,

Sure, I’ll confirm that storyline. Why not? Big caveat here though:

CraveOnline is much mistaken in saying this was for a “web series.” This was never meant as a web gimmick, this was intended for use in the actual TV series. I wanted to kick off the 2nd season with the flashback episode Sam describes, which would have followed a squad of Army Rangers getting trapped in the city and trying to survive as Atlanta falls.

The idea was to do this with a very focused “you are there” documentary feel. Not going all shaky-cam, but still making it a bit rawer and grainier than the rest of the show. We’d start with a squad of maybe seven or eight soldiers being dropped into the city by chopper. They have map coordinates they need to get to; they’ve been told to report to a certain place to provide reinforcement. It’s not a special mission, it’s basically a housekeeping measure putting more boots on the ground to reinforce key intersections and installations throughout the city. And we follow this group from the moment the copter sets them down. All they have to do is travel maybe a dozen blocks, a simple journey, but what starts as a no-brainer scenario goes from “the city is being secured” to “holy shit, we’ve lost control, the world is ending.” Our squad gets blocked at every turn and are soon just trying to survive. I wanted to do a really tense, character-driven ensemble story as communications break down, supply lines are lost, escape routes are cut off, morale falls apart, leadership unravels, mutinies heat up, etc. (Yes, this approach owes a spiritual debt to a number of great films, including Walter Hill’s Southern Comfort.)

Along the way, I thought we could briefly dovetail this story with a few established characters from the show. Not to overdo that, mind you, because it could get silly and too coincidental if you load too much into that idea. But I thought it would be great to veer off on a quick narrative detour that brushes our soldiers briefly up against some people we know. Picture our squad arriving at a manned barricade where some civilians are being held back from leaving the city on shoot-to-kill orders to stop the spread of contagion, it’s a panicked high-intensity scene, and in this crowd of desperate people we find Andrea and Amy. The barricade gunners panic, the civilians start to get mowed down by machine gun fire, and in this melee the girls get pulled to safety by some old guy they don’t even know. It’s Dale. He’s nobody to them, just some guy who saw the opportunity to do the right thing and reacted in the moment. This would have been perhaps a minute or two of the episode, just a cool detour like the various outposts the soldiers encounter in Saving Private Ryan, but we would have witnessed the moment that Dale meets Andrea and Amy, seen where that relationship began. I also felt it would be a great way to get Emma Bell back into the series for a moment, because she was so wonderful and we were all so sorry that her character died and she had to leave the show. (Of course if this “brush with established characters” idea didn’t work in the script stage, I’d have tossed it out. You try a lot of ideas like that as you go, see how they play. But I thought this one stood a pretty good chance of being engineered to work well.)

So the story follows these soldiers through hell as the city falls apart and the squad implodes, with Sam’s soldier being the main character and the moral center of the group. He becomes the last survivor of the squad, and he finally gets to the map coordinates they’ve been trying to get to from the start: it’s the barricade at the Atlanta courthouse intersection from the pilot where Rick later finds the tank. The soldier is still alive when he gets there, but he’s been bitten. He’s accomplished his “simple” mission, but he’s gone through seven kinds of hell to do it (including being forced to frag his squad leader), and now he’s dying. And he crawls off into the tank just to get off the street and under cover. As his fever builds and the poor guy starts to hallucinate, he pulls his last grenade and considers ending his life. He sets the grenade down on that shelf for a moment to reflect on all the shit and misery that brought him to this sad end-point of his life, and to dredge up the courage to pull the pin…but before he can act, the fever burns him out and he dies.

The kicker comes in the last moments of this episode:

After the soldier dies this squalid, lonely death…and after a quiet lapse of time…we do a shot-for-shot reprise from the first episode of the first season: Rick comes scrambling into the tank to escape the horde…blows that zombie soldier’s brains out…now Rick’s trapped…fade out…the end.

The notion was to take the “throwaway” tank zombie Rick encountered in the pilot, and tell that soldier’s story. Make him the star of his own movie, follow his journey, but don’t reveal who he is until the end. The idea being that every zombie has a story, every undead extra was once a human being with a life of his/her own…was, in a sense, the star of his own life’s movie. And we’ve followed this one particular guy and seen how his life ended; we witness his struggles, see his good intentions and his failures, and we experience his godawful death in this tank. That’s why I cast Sam as that tank zombie in the first place instead of just casting some extra. I had this story in mind while filming the pilot, and I knew I’d need a superb actor to play that soldier when the time came.

And then starting with Episode 202, we’d be back with Rick’s group and back in step with the flow of the established story from last season.

I always had in mind to throw in a “wild-card” episode every season, maybe as a season opener or closer. Just a separate story more in the feel of an anthology series, one that appears completely off the track of the regular series but actually does wind up tying in somehow by the fade-out. They did that sort of thing on LOST on occasion, and I really respected it. It always seemed like a bold choice that trusted the audience and rewarded their loyalty with a totally unexpected surprise episode every so often.

That’s it from me. I hope things are well on your end.

Best,

Frank

So there it is. I don’t really care much for this back story as I’m not a huge fan of the show because I’m much more loyal to the comic and the story they have created there but like every one else I’ll tune in each week to see where this wild story is going.

Letterman Tells Scarlett Johansson: Nude Photos Were ‘Lovely Thing For Mankind

Posted on 13 December 2011 by Christian

During Scarlett Johansson’s appearance on the ‘Late Show’ last night, the topic turned to her now infamous nude photos.

“Yes, somebody stole my nudie photos and they were out there for all the world to see,” the 27-year-old replied when Letterman explained she had been the victim of a hacker.

“Which was, it was unfortunate,” she said as she burst out laughing. “I don’t know why I’m laughing, it was terrible!”

“I mean I understand personally how you’re looking at it,” interjected Letterman. “The guy could be in prison for a 100 years or so.”

“On the other hand, the way to look at it is… it was a lovely thing for mankind.” “But it’s illegal is the point,” he added. “I have to say it was quite shocking and creepy,” she explained.

“What was even more creepy was this person was obviously following me. My password was constantly changing for months and months.”

“I kept thinking why is my password always changing. The guy was really there constantly, sitting there all pasty and sweaty, pervy and weird and that’s the creepiest thing.” The actress said last month that the nude photos were actually intended for her then-husband Ryan Reynolds.

She is currently making the rounds to promote the film ‘We Bought a Zoo’.

George Takei Tries To Broker Peace Between ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Star Trek’

Posted on 13 December 2011 by Christian

George Takei is stepping in as the broker of peace in the ongoing debate between ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Star Trek’.

Takei warns that if William Shatner and Carrie Fisher keep arguing, the winner will only be the ‘Twilight’”.

“Sci-Fi fans be warned,” says Takei. “There are no great stories, characters or profound life lessons to be had in ‘Twilight’”.

“No, in ‘Twilight’ the only message that rings through loud and clear is… ‘Does my boyfriend like me?”

“Let us band together to combat this mutual threat!”

But what no one seems to know is why Ferrell wanted to do the ads or why he chose Davenport, Iowa when the beer is from Wisconsin.

Syfy Orders Script For New TV Show Based On DC Comics Character Booster Gold

Posted on 23 November 2011 by Christian

Syfy has ordered a pilot script from Fringe writer Andrew Kreisberg for a small screen adaptation of Booster Gold. We have all the details on the creative talent behind the show as well as details on its premise here.

The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively revealed SyFy’s plans for a small screen adaptation of Booster Gold. The network has reportedly ordered a pilot script for what will be a one-hour drama from Fringe writer Andrew Kreisberg. Greg Berlanti’s production company will oversee the project in association with Warner Horizon Television. It will credit both Berlanti (Green Lantern, No Ordinary Family) and Kreisberg as executive producers. DC Comics are expected to receive similar credit.

They also reveal a few details about the premise of the planned series.

The story will center on Booster Gold, a washed-up athlete from the future who travels back to the present in hopes of becoming the greatest super hero of all time. Instead of chasing criminals, however, his main priority is chasing fame and money. But Booster Gold discovers that being a hero takes more than just a megawatt smile, and that the future doesn’t happen without first protecting the present.

The character of Booster Gold was created by writer/artist Dan Jurgens in 1986 and has since become a prominent member of the DC Universe, currently serving as leader of Justice League International as part of the New 52. Booster’s only live action appearance was earlier this year in the 18th episode of the final season of Smallville.

Bill Paxton Set To Direct Big Screen Version Of Kung Fu

Posted on 01 November 2011 by Christian

Now not the Marvel comics character Shang-Chi, but a movie version of the ’70s Tv show which starred David Carradine and also had a comic book series. Deadline have the details..

I’m sure any CBMer of a certain age, or even those wise enough to catch some re-runs, remember the Kung Fu Tv series fondly. It starred the late David Carradine as a Shaolin Monk possessed of great martial arts skills as he wanders the American wild west in search of his brother, adventure and enlightenment. It was pretty damn awesome. And now Legendary Entertainment are bringing us a big screen version with none other than Hudson himself at the helm..

Bill Paxton is in talks to direct Kung Fu, a screen adaptation of the classic 1972 TV series that starred David Carradine. Paxton, who’s coming off a run in the HBO series Big Love, gets the job after helming two solid films: Frailty and The Greatest Game Ever Played. John McLaughlin will write the script.

It will be nice to see ol Grasshopper up there on the cinema screen. King Fu was originally conceived as a vehicle for Bruce Lee but the studio decided to go with a “less Asian” looking actor fort the lead. A less Asian, Asian character. So Carradine was chosen. The show ran for three seasons between 1972 and 1975, spawning a movie in 1986 as well as novels, comics and several spin-off series, the latest of which was Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. What do you guys make of this, and Paxton as director?

COMICS: Marvel Reveals Plans For Ongoing Dexter Series By Creator Jeff Lindsey!

Posted on 17 October 2011 by Christian

They may now be owned by Disney, but that doesn’t mean Marvel have gone soft! At yesterday’s “Cup ‘O Joe” panel, it was revealed that the creator of the TV show will write an ongoing comic book series featuring the serial killer…

Well, this should please fans of Dexter! However, if like me you prefer the TV show over the novels, this may not come as such great news due to the fact that the planned comic book series will be written by the creator of the character and set in the world of Jeff Lindsey’s books – and as you may know, they’re pretty different from the Showtime series starring Michael C. Hall! Many thanks to Comic Book Resources for the following.

The panel wrapped with Quesada saying, “I don’t know if you guys are fans of this little series called ‘Dexter’…” He then revealed that novelist Jeff Lindsay will bring the popular character to comics with an all-new ongoing series with new stories set in the world of the “Dexter” novels (as opposed to the TV series).

And thanks to the guys over at Bleeding Cool for this photo taken at the panel in New York.

Is This The First Look at GODZILLA?

Posted on 05 October 2011 by Christian

Legendary Pictures is rebooting GODZILLA with Gareth Edwards (Monsters) to direct and David Goyer (Batman Begins) is writing the screenplay. But will the powerful monster be CGI or a man in a rubber suit?

Last time Godzilla got the Hollywood treatment was in 1998 when Roland Emmerich (Independence Day) and SONY created a film that hardly resembled anything that fans were accustomed to. The star, Godzilla looked nothing like he usually does. Is as though they took the name Godzilla and slapped a Jurassic Park look to the film.

As for the reboot that Legendary Pictures is working on, infamouskidd’s source is reporting that creature sculptor, Hector Arce’s design of Godzilla is the blueprint. Even more exciting is that Legendary is rumored to be going with a rubber suited Godzilla instead of all CGI creation. How great is that?

Our source in the know on the new look of Godzilla sent us off in the direction of Hector A. Arce, a creature/fantasy sculptor, who we’ve been told is part of the design team for Legendary’s film, primarily because this version of Godzilla is based on a sculpt he did of Godzilla quite some time ago. Legendary’s roll-out of GODZILLA concept art at Comic-Con back in 2010 was based on his design, and, even with a few tweaks here and there, I’m hearing that the final approved version of Godzilla shouldn’t look that drastically different from this:

Pictures courtesy of infamouskidd.com

The bigger question though is – how will Godzilla be brought to the screen? Will it be another CGI creation? Will we be lucky to get an old-school rubber suit? I’m hearing that the plan, as it stands now, is for Godzilla to actually be in the flesh, with someone filling a rubber suit for Godzilla’s return. The head will be controlled by animatronics, and any touch-ups needed for the final film will then fall upon CGI.

Is This Finally The End For The Simpsons?

Posted on 05 October 2011 by Christian

We don’t cover tv’s longest running sitcom too regularly here but with Fox threatening cancellation after this season ends we feel it’s worth reporting on. Click for the details..

The Simpsons is a true phenomenon. Not only is it tv’s longest running sitcom (and an animated one at that) but it has graced pretty much every medium and paraphernalia known to man including clothing, lunchboxes, stamps, DVDs, a feature film, video games and of course comic books. Loved by all for a time, many now feel that the show has run its course and is simply not as funny as it used to be. However you feel about it the fact remains that it is still Fox’s biggest money spinner and now it seems like the show may finally be cancelled due to a money dispute between them and the show’s main voice cast. Doh?

From The Daily Beast

The reason is a negotiating impasse between the studio and the six principal actors who voice the beloved characters on the animated series that hilariously satirizes middle-class Midwestern angst.

Difficult bargaining is nothing new for the show, which was created by James L. Brooks and Matt Groening. Fox studio execs have occasionally threatened to replace uncooperative cast members with sound-alike actors. But for the first time in nearly a quarter century of haggling, the executives have insisted that if the cast doesn’t accept a draconian 45 percent pay cut, The Simpsons will die an abrupt death as a first-run series.

Apparently Dan Castellaneta (Homer, Grampa Simpson, Krusty the Clown, and others), Julie Kavner (Marge and others), Nancy Cartwright (Bart and others), Yeardley Smith (Lisa), Hank Azaria (Moe Szyslak, Chief Wiggum and Apu Nahasapeemapetilon), and Harry Shearer (Mr. Burns, Principal Skinner, Ned Flanders, and others) were willing to take a cut of around 30% with “a tiny percentage of the show’s huge back-end profits”, but that isn’t good enough for Fox. Who knows what will happen but if the ultimatum holds we could well be looking at the end of tv’s most famous family. How would you guys feel about that?

A Firefly Rap Album Exists?

Posted on 29 September 2011 by TH3 No08

If you’re interested in a rap album who’s lyrics are inspired by the tv show/movie and also uses samples directly from Firefly do I have a treat for you. Head on over to Adamwarrock.com and download this gem for free. Check out the first single below for a taste of what the album brings…

Here’s the story behind the album from the liner notes…

ADAM WAROCK & MIKAL KHILL PRESENT…
THE BROWNCOATS MIXTAPE
Some Backstory…
First I made a mixtape about The West Coast Avengers, then I made one about a bunch of comic titles in conjunction with
Oni Press Books. It was time to move past comics. It was time for a bigger target. It was time to fguratively shoot for the
moon.
When I tossed some ideas out for the next mixtape, the idea for doing a mixtape based on Firefy originally came from a
loose idea to do a “Joss Whedon” mixtape. I just liked the way it sounded, the way the text looked in my head. The only
problem is…I’ve never seen all of Buffy, I haven’t watched Dollhouse. The only thing I’ve ever really watched, and loved
dearly by Mr. Whedon, was Firefy. It took a few seconds for me to just realize, “Oh, hey, duh. A browncoats mixtape.”
Originally, it was going to be a bunch of songs about Firefy and Serenity, made to old Spaghetti Western scores, Ennio
Morricone-type strings and arrangements. It would be a western/hip-hop mash-up. It wasn’t until I hooked up with Mikal
kHill of The ThoughtCriminals, that the obvious answer was in front of us. kHill simply told me, “There’s scores of Firefy
and Serenity, you know. I could just…make beats out of those.” Done.
Here’s what I’ve always loved so much about Firefy. It’s a show that’s ostensibly about outsiders, about people who can’t
accept the world and circumstances the way they are, and do their best to simply survive, rather than try to change
anything. The war was lost, the Alliance exists, and that’s the way it is. Their heroism and character come from small acts.
I know some people may think that’s a pessimistic view, but I think it’s a reachable, and comforting perspective: to think
that amidst the insane challenges that we’re faced with on a day to day basis, we can still do good, we can still be good,
that we can survive with our heads held high. Ironically, as struggling musicians, when you start writing lyrics about “The
Independents” and surviving, hustling, the whole ethos of Firefy became intensely personal to the struggles that we go
through, to make art, to hustle, to survive. This mixtape became a weirdly synergistic and re-energizing experience. It
became way more personal than we ever could’ve thought.
So we hope you enjoy it. We hope you keep shooting for the moon.
They can’t take the sky from us…
