Movie News

The latest rumor (which comes to us exclusively by way of Comic Book Movie) is that The Dark Knight Rises will be following in the footsteps of the one of the most famous Batman storylines of all time, “Knightfall,” which any real fan should recognize. For those unfamiliar:

“Knightfall” involves Bane coming to Gotham City on quest to beat Batman and take control of the city’s crime syndicates. To accomplish this, Bane blows up Arkham Asylum, flooding Gotham’s streets with all the lunatics that Batman has locked up. Batman tries to recover the fugitives, and in the process wears himself down both mentally and physically. When he’s at his lowest ebb, Batman is confronted by Bane inside of Wayne Manor and an epic fight ensues, ending with Bane breaking Batman’s back. The incident leaves Gotham without a protector, until Bruce Wayne recovers from his injuries and takes the city back (albeit from a new Batman, though no word on if TDKR will go that route).\

Shia lebouf and Michael bay are leaving the transformers series after part 3, what direction will they go in? who should replace them? Would you like to see a reboot?

Television News

After two and half seasons on CBS’ procedural staple CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Laurence Fishburne has decided not to return to the flailing series as it begins its twelfth season this fall.

Initially contracted for a single season, Fishburne’s departure does not come as a big surprise, as the famed actor purposefully requested that his contract renewals with CSI be limited to a single season at a time. While this contractual element was most likely implemented for the purpose of allowing Fishburne to pursue other endeavors, it is not known whether another role was the reason for him leaving – but the downfall of the once popular CSI certainly didn’t help.

PS3 News

Police in Spain said that they have arrested three men yesterday – who are suspected of hacking into PSN, as well as various government websites around the world. The police said that the three were the leaders of the local division of Internet group Anonymous, who initially denied any involvement in the attack. Of course, there was later some dissension within the group in regards to that claim, so whether or not these three are even involved with the group at all is debatable.

Quickhits…

Movie Casting news today, lots of big casting news announced

1. Warner Bros. will be developing a new comedy called Turkey Bowl that will reunite Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, who starred together in The Other Guys, which I thought was an entertaining movie. Warner Bros. bought the film pitch from 30 Rock‘s Robert Carlock, and Scott Silveri.

Ferrell and Walberg star as a couple of guys from football-obsessed towns who lead rival teams in an annual tackle football game for bragging and trash-talking rights. According to Deadline “the tackle games are grandiose, and I’m told they plan to pack it with fun cameos, just the way they did during the rival broadcaster gang fights in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.”

2. Last month it was reported that Armie Hammer (The Social Network) was in talks to join Gore Verbinski’s big screen adaptation of The Lone Ranger. Today it’s been officially announced that Hammer will in fact play The Lone Ranger opposite Johnny Depp who has been attached to the role of Tonto for a couple of years already. The film is finally going to go into production this fall.

The Lone Ranger’s origin story begins with a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish. The gang ambushes the Rangers, seemingly killing them all. One survivor is found, however, by an American Indian named Tonto, who nurses him back to health. The Ranger, donning a mask and riding a white stallion named Silver, teams up with Tonto to bring the unscrupulous gang and others of that ilk to justice.

3. Famous film producer Ed Pressman (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) is in Cannes shopping around a batch of new projects – which include the Bloodsport remake (in addition to the Crow remake).

According to Screen Daily, the remake project has attracted the attention (and subsequently director talents) of Phillip Noyce (Salt). Noyce would helm a film based on a script by Taken-writer, Robert Mark Kamen.

For anyone who grew-up after the 80s, the original Bloodsport followed the (potentially embellished) story of real-life martial artist Frank Dux (Van Damme) who travels to Hong Kong to fight in the Kumite – an underground, no-holds-barred, martial arts tournament – where Dux, reportedly, fought opponent after opponent until he was crowned the contest’s first Western-born champion.

Television

1. It looks like Andy Richter will be stepping from behind the podium on Conan to another podium (I am guessing) for a new game show on TBS entitled Pyramid. The show is reportedly a modern-day take on the iconic game show that began as The $10,000 Pyramid.

2. According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox has at last worked out a deal with Warner Bros. television – which secured the rights to The Flintstones brand name after it absorbed Hanna-Barbera some years back – that will allow the former to reboot the prehistoric cartoon sitcom “as a TV and film property,” under the direction of MacFarlane.

Currently, the main focus appears to be on MacFarlane reworking Hanna-Barbera’s iconic animated sitcom – which originally aired from about 1959-1966 – for Fox as a television show. Depending on how successful the rebooted series turns out to be, movie spinoffs (a la the Family Guy feature-length Star Wars parodies) could eventually be in the cards as well.

3. Earlier we reported NBC had rejected David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman pilot. Today we have some more information as to why the network passed on the series. NBC chief Robert Greenblatt sat down with TV Guide recently and explained the situation:

“They did a great pilot and worked really hard on it. And I have huge respect for David E. Kelley. But we looked at the schedule and our needs and where things were falling into place. And it just didn’t seem to fit.”

4. As season 4 rapidly approaches, FX has recruited the ubiquitous Danny Trejo for a multi-episode arc alongside the members of SAMCRO on the biker drama Sons of Anarchy.

Trejo is set to portray former Mexican military commando Romero ‘Romeo’ Parada, who finds himself a new friend in SAMCRO.

Video games

1. The PSN is back…

While early outcries over the recent PlayStation Network down time had tons of PS3 owners claiming that they would forever leave the Sony console behind, the company is reporting that only a “small percentage” of their membership have actually abandoned ship.

According to the PlayStation help center call logs, as revealed by Sony, there is only a small minority of callers who have indicated that they plan on cancelling their PSN accounts. Early rumblings, and a somewhat skewed survey, were suggesting that Sony might see a large number of their PSN population make the switch to another system, but it turns out, as of yet, that is not the case.

2. At this point, the drama over Duke Nukem Forever‘s delay is testing the patience of even the most loyal fans. Luckily, those patiently awaiting another chance to step into the jeans and torn gloves of Duke have something other than the game’s launch to look forward to. The release date is still set in stone at June 14 in North America, but now Gearbox has announced that a demo is going to be released on June 3. Unfortunately, it won’t be open to everyone.

While Gearbox President Randy Pitchford may be able to get everyone nervous by making an announcement of any kind after delaying DNF in March, this is unquestionably good news. The demo will only be available to First Access Club members, being those who have pre-ordered DNF from participating retailers, or those who purchased Borderlands Game of the Year Edition.

If you invested in either you should be receiving an email from the publisher, confirming what system you want to play the demo on already.

3. also duke nukem has apparently ditched a gay robot sidekick that was to appear in this game.

having our hero team-up with a character who is openly gay would definitely provide some interesting situations for Duke to battle. That was the intent behind game designer Randy Pitchford’s idea of including a gay robot as a sidekick for Duke to work with.

He explained that he wanted to create a character that would give players the chance to explore how Duke would interact with someone of a different sexual orientation than him – particularly because Duke himself was so overly sexual in nature. Pitchford also hinted at a potential storyline twist that involved the discovery of the aforementioned robot sidekick having a nuclear generator in his inner workings – which would be necessary to defeat the antagonistic aliens.

Sadly, we won’t get a chance to find out how these interactions or the story would turn out, as the character was cut from the final game. More frustrating was that no reason was given as to why the character was removed. However, Pitchford did say that they wanted to come back to the concept, meaning that the character could appear in a future Duke Nukem game.

And now, an attack by a pair of super-powered twins increases the threat level and triggers Gotham City’s new mayor to call for drastic measures.

This is a prequel to the upcoming video game and fills in the story line between the last game and the next game. As a pure promotion piece it’s pretty good. Noob Radio #32

Posted on 12 May 2011 by TH3 No08

This week on Noob Radio Richard and Christian discuss whether or not his new house is haunted, if Dinosuars vs. Aliens is the greatest movie idea of all time, as well as a ton of comic reviews in this weeks Comic Break. All this and much more on this episode of Noob Radio…

Inro, new house chat, whats that like? Plans for geeking it out? What’s the biggest difference in owning and renting? Are there any ghosts?, thor screening talk, free comic book day haul, what I got.

Quick hits…

Movie news

1. Alec Baldwin has dropped out of Adam Shankman’s adaptation of Rock of Ages at New Line. Earlier Shankman had Tweeted that Baldwin had joined the cast. Since March, he has been set to play Dennis Dupree, the owner of the Bourbon Room, the Sunset Boulevard nightclub at the center of the movie.

The film still has a great cast that includes, Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Mary J. Blige, Julianne Hough, and newcomer Diego Boneta.

Based on a play, has a huge cast, thoughts? Does this look like the next big musical ala moulon rouge or dream girls? Can’t go wrong with 80s music, have you seen rock star with mark Walberg? My favorite Walberg movie…

2. Barry Sonnenfeld has found his next project once he wraps Men In Black III. He is teaming up with comic book writer Grant Morrison to develop a graphic novel and film entitled Dominion: Dinosaurs Versus Aliens.

The graphic novel will be published in both print and digital formats later this year. It will tell the story of “a secret prehistoric world war battle. When an alien invasion attacks Earth in the age of the dinosaurs, the planet’s only hope is the giants that roam the planet with, it turns out, a lot more intelligence than previously realized.”

Can you go wrong with this? Its dinosaurs and aliens, sounds like a winning combination to me. Does this go serious or campy? Live action or cg or animated? Will the dinosaurs talk?

3. Chris Hemsworth has officially been cast in Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman. He will star opposite Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen and Sam Claflin as the prince. Rupert Sanders is directing the film, which is said to change the traditional fairy tale story to focus on the Evil Queen ordering the death of Snow White and the Huntsman decides instead to protect and teach her to fight back.

The success of Thor this past weekend with $66m at the box-office had to have helped solidify the deal. Before being cast as Thor, Hemsworth had only had supporting roles in Star Trek and a brief role in A Perfect Getaway. He also starred in the remake to Red Dawn and Cabin in the Woods, which are both awaiting distribution. I am hopeful that those deals will get inked over the week at Cannes.

I think this guy is gonna be a huge star, I also think that if this movie is successful than we will see a rash of movies based on fairy tales. What fairy tale would you make into a movie. Mine is the billy goats gruff starring steve buschemi or danny devito as the troll.

Television News

1. Colin Hanks Joins Dexter for season 6. According to TVLine, Hanks will play a young ancient artifacts expert who is tied to a series of murders in Miami. The role was not included in some casting breakdowns that came out last week.

Thoughts on colin hanks? Will ever live up to his father’s name? im excited to see him and dexter mix it up. He brings an interesting quirk to his characters that will keep dexter interesting. I have a hard time seeing him as a serial killer though.

2. Wonder Woman was recently screened and I have spoilers from the pilot…

*The pilot felt more like a cross between “Ally McBeal” and “Boston Legal” than Wonder Woman.

* Diana both kills (apparently quite cavalierly) and tortures men in the pilot

* The lasso is frequently employed as an Indiana Jones-type whip.

* which Diana comes off as “a warrior” in the fight scenes

* We learn Diana left Trevor (and a life in New York) because she feared her enemies could harm any romantic interest she might pursue.

* In the pilot, Diana’s home island of Themyscera is apparently a lot like Dharma Island from “Lost”: once one leaves it, it’s essentially impossible to find again.

NBC will announce whether or not it’s taking “Wonder Woman” to series no later than next Monday.

Does this sound like a winner? Any interest in this or will this fall the way of the 6 million dollar woman or night rider?

3. This is for all you Glee fans (Gleeks) out there. 20th Century Fox TV and film divisions have partnered up to produce Glee Live! 3D! which will be a feature film based on the live concert that will run through June 18th here in the states before heading over to the UK. Now I bet some of you are so excited you just screamed and called your BFF and screamed even louder. One more big thing is the original cast will be in this, The movie will have a two week engagement starting on August 12th. Glee Live! 3D! is directed by Kevin Tancharoen (Fame, Mortal Kombat: Legacy) and will feature some behind the scenes moments.

Does this excite the glee fan in you?

Game news.

1. PSN is still down, will not be up until possibly the end of may, beginning of june. This is effecting me in that I bought a game that requires internet content from the psn and now im stuck with it until I they get it back up. This is a major pr blow. They will try to make it up but it think this really hurts them in the long run.

2. There’s been a lot of talk regarding and alan wake sequel recently,

Remedy, Alan Wake’s developer, sent a statement to Joystiq.com to explain (sort of) what was going on with the franchise. Here’s an excerpt: “Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that, yes, more Wake is coming! …this next Wake installment will not be Alan Wake 2. But neither will it be DLC.”

He promises that whatever the game is will “give more” to pre-existing Alan Wake fans and be a good jumping on point for those who’ve yet to try out the first game.  Kevin never finished the review for this game in December but talks incessentlay about how great it is. Does it interest you?

Alan Wake is a story-driven action game in the psychological thriller genre, developed by Finnish studio Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft Game Studios, released for the Xbox 360 video game console in 2010. The plot follows bestselling thriller novel writer Alan Wake as he uncovers the mystery behind his wife Alice’s disappearance while both are on vacation in the small town of Bright Falls, Washington, where he experiences blackouts and visions of characters and ideas from his latest novel, which he cannot remember writing, coming to life.

3. I pad 3 may be glasses free 3d for both games and movies. Producers are rushing to get more content created so they can have it ready when the 3ds hits. if it is will this kill of the 3ds? I actually got my hands on a 3ds and wasn’t impressed.

Noob Radio #31

Posted on 28 April 2011 by TH3 No08

This week on Noob Radio Richard and Christian discuss the future of the Fast and the Furious franchise, Jeremy Renner becoming the lead in the new Bourne movie as well as tons of comic reviews in this weeks comic break sponsored by www.comicbreak.com. All this and much more on this episode of Noob Radio!

Intro what’s on the agenda for today, promotion news (free comic book day, comic con),

Quick hits…

Movie news…

Fast 6, the sequel to fast five will move forward in a new direction away from the street racing world more into the organized crime world ala oceans eleven, ‘The French Connection’, ‘The Bourne Identity’, ‘The Italian Job’.” All which feature great stories as well as action sequences…

So I guess the question is , can they? Do you dig these movies? Fast 5 actually outgrossed thor in its opening weekend in Australia. I think its gonna be huge…

Scream 4 got off to a relatively modest start at the box office in its opening weekend, but experienced a pretty huge drop-off over the Easter holiday frame. That news left many a fan of the horror franchise wondering: what exactly does that mean for Scream 5 – and the future of the series in general?
Wes Craven has said in the past that he’s up for directing another scream trilogy; however, with the fourth flick in the series under performing at the box office, that doesn’t look likely to happen. Here’s the more disconcerting question for Ghostface fans: Does that mean the franchise could eventually end up being rebooted?
Thoughts on this? Scream 4 sucked the ending was awful, they should let it die. It became exactly what it was mocking in the beginning.

Bourne Legacy casting news

Deadline has confirmed Latino Review‘s scoop that Renner will take-on leading man duties for the sequel. Renner will play Martin, like Bourne before him, a super-spy on the run from the top-secret government program that trained him. While the program is not Treadstone, the one that produced Jason Bourne, it’s very similar and somehow even more dangerous.

As previously stated, Jason Bourne as played by Matt Damon will not be appearing in the film but his existence will be felt throughout. Hence the title.

I believe they should start this movie with renner standing over a dead matt damon and go from there. Nor reboot, just another branch in the story. Do you dig the bourne movies? It gave damon a chance to play an action hero type.

Tv news

After two weeks of dismal ratings and poor critical reception, The Paul Reiser Show has been pulled from NBC’s Thursday night line-up.

The Paul Reiser Show, a mid-season replacement for the struggling Perfect Couples, got off to a very rocky start.

According to The Wrap, the debut episode managed to snag the lowest ratings for a regular season premiere in NBC history – grabbing the attention of a paltry 3.3 million viewers. The following week, the show managed to lose 18 percent of those initial viewers. After such a poor showing, it came as no surprise when the network promptly pulled the plug.

First off it was a rip off of the much better curb your enthusiasm, a much better show. Even featured larry david in the show. Terrible show, just terrible. Why not just replace it with curb?

Internet streaming service Netflix has passed a major hurdle in its quest for video dominance: its worldwide subscriber count is higher than Comcast’s US numbers.
Netflix announced the impressive accomplishment in its quarterly earnings call. The company added more than three million subscribers in the first three months of 2010 alone, bringing its total to 23.6 million. The exact number of current Comcast subscribers isn’t known, but has been steadily declining: in the fourth quarter of last year they lost 135,000 viewers for a total of 22.8 million.
This means Netflix now has more subscribers than any single cable company. Internet tv is the way of the future, get used to it…

Game news…

Wii2 or project cafe as its now known has been announced…

It will be announced and playable at E3 this coming June.

“We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles,” the company said in a brief statement. Nintendo did not reveal any additional details.

the console – dubbed Project Cafe – will be “significantly more powerful” than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and be backwards compatible with current Wii software. The console will also utilize a new, tablet-shaped controller. Sources say it will have a 6-inch touch screen display, dual analog sticks, and has the ability to stream content directly from the console.

According to sources with knowledge of the project, Nintendo’s next console could have a retail price of anywhere between $350 and $400 look for it in early 2012.

How do sony and Microsoft react to this expecially with sony’s recent network problems? They are moving away from the wii remote system to a ds style interactive controller interface, is this a game changer?

Xbox live expects network traffic to grow while psn is down, they say the are ready for the increases in traffic, are trying to take advantage of sony’s problems. If they truly wanted to take advantage of the problem they’d stop chargin people to use it.

This from Microsoft

Of course it’s regretful that Sony is encountering issues at such a busy time, and Microsoft takes no joy in the problems gamers are having playing their favourite games online. That being said, we are expecting Microsoft’s robust online network to see an increase of traffic from those gamers who own both systems. Being able to play their games via the Xbox LIVE network could make all the difference for some gamers, and the Xbox Nations event will allow all of them to do just that – whether they have a Gold subscription or not.”

Thoughts on the psn outage? Has it effected you? It has made it difficult for me at times to get online on my Netflix, I don’t play online but I do use my ps3 for online stuff… psn says to change your password info may have been compromised.

Noob Radio #30

Posted on 21 April 2011 by TH3 No08

This week on Noob Radio Richard and Christian discuss the casting of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, what the future of Marvel based films holds for comic fans as well as why Netflix is the greatest thing ever invented in the history of time and space and how they can keep it that way. All this and much more on this episode of Noob Radio…

Intro, Richard’s history with 420

Quick hits

Movie news

A little batman casting news…The roles of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises have been confirmed in a press release from Warner Bros. Gordon-Levitt will star as “John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon” and Cotillard is “Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.”

There are rumors this character may have some connection to the joker, would you prefer JGL as a villain or a good guy, whats your favorite role for JGL? I liked 500 days of summer

A new terminator?   Skynet is officially aware… Last week news hit that another Terminator film was in the works and that Justin Lin (Fast Five) was going to direct. Lin confirmed that he’s talked to Arnold about reprising his iconic role. With Arnie getting up in age there has been concerns of his ability not to mention his interest. That means that Lin would have to find someone else. The director vaguely hinted to Moviehole that he might consider Vin Diesel for the part. Lin stated, “you never know”.  Thoughts on diesel as a robot, and im not talking about his acting… remember when vin diesel was considered a good actor? He was really good in boiler room

Kevin Feige confirmed sequels for Thor and Captain America in a recent article in D23 Magazine. This is a very exciting time for Marvel superhero fans. This year we have Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger coming out, then The Avengers, then Iron Man 3. We first learned about Marvel’s plans when Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus were hired as screenwriters. The screenwriters later mentioned the possibility of the Captain America sequel taking place during WWII or during present day, but no confirmation was given until now.

Thor will go off into a new adventure, and Captain America will continue to explore the modern world in another film of his own. We hope that holds true for the characters appearing in that film — Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the spy organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. —all of whom are more than worthy and capable of carrying their own films.

And, we’ve got a lot of other characters we’re prepping and getting ready for film debuts: the world of martial arts, these great cosmic space fantasies, Dr. Strange, and the magic side of the Marvel Universe. There are many, many stories to be mined.”

Thor opens Friday, we didn’t get screening invites, are you excited about a thor movie and sequels?  What do you know about thors backstory?

TV News…

Game of Thrones, the HBO epic has been picked up for season 2, it’s being called lord of the rings for tv, have you seen any of it? It’s getting rave reviews and had the second highest debut on hbo behind boardwalk empire, im gonna check it out on demand…

Think the U.S. has too much big government?

Apparently to distract from completion of its $7 trillion Qinghai time tunnel, the government of China has banned all depictions of time travel on Chinese television. If you were a spy, Whats your favorite time travel movie you would slip to a chineese dissident on a bootleg divx jump drive? Id do time crimes or time cop?

Donald trump is holding off renewing his television show on nbc for several weeks so he can announce on his season finale whether he will run for president. He is the top candidate for many republicans who apparently get there news from reality tv. Thoughts on trump using his tv show as a political bully pulpit? Is he a serious candidate? Doesn’t this guy have too many skeletons in his closet to be taken seriously?

Video game news…

2 big releases this week… mortal kombat and crisis 2… thoughts? Were you interested in picking up mk after playing the demo? Would you be more interested in picking up mk which you played the demo or crisis 2 just based on the rave reviews?

The long anticipated game dancing eyes for ps3 has been canceled. It was announced last October that it was coming to the ps move but was eventually scrapped. Dancing eyes was originally a Japanese arcade game where  women danced in their underwear and your tiny character crawled over their clothes and ripped them off rendering them eventually naked. I’m not surprised ti was canceled but I do wonder why there aren’t more sex games…

The main event

Netflix talk…

Netflix just released a shit ton of new content for on demand streaming. So many tv series I cant even keep up with them all. I don’t have cable so most of my tv watching is over Netflix so this is great for me. What is the long term feasibility for Netflix to continue to offer 799 streaming with no commericals? They seem to be the only ones who don’t have commercials. They recently announced that they would delay new released by 28 days so dvds sales would have a jump on them. Does that hurt them having to wait or do people really care about disk based delivery anymore? How long until disk based delivery is dead and what will be the next big format? Who can compete with Netflix in the long run and what will they have to do to be the next big competitor?

Noob Radio # 29

Posted on 14 April 2011 by TH3 No08

This week on Noob Radio Richard and Christian discuss Bradley Cooper taking on the role of The Crow, why Black Dynamite will be the next big thing to hit television, as well as whether or not M. Night Shyamalan should be sent back to film school. All this and much more on this episode of Noob Radio…

Intro…

movies

Green Day‘s Broadway musical American Idiot is being developed into a feature film by Universal Pictures. Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black (Milk), is in talks to write the script, and Michael Mayer will direct. Mayer directed the stage version of the musical, which uses the songs of the punk band’s 2004 album to tell “the coming-of-age story of three small-town guys.” Produced by tom hanks and gary goetzman. Armstrong of greenday would star, has been in the stage version.

It was recently reported that 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, was set to develop the remake of The Crow. Fans of the original film are already upset that the movie is getting the reboot, and I imagine this next bit of news is going to enrage some of the fans. Bradely Cooper (The Hangover) is currently in early negotiations to take on the lead role in the film being produced by Relativity Media.

Of all places to confirm that you are producing a movie, Producer Brian Grazer decided Twitter would be the place to do it.  “got off the phone with keifer yesterday, we are exited about producing 24 movie next year? Thoughts? Did you watch show?

TV

Earlier we reported that Will Ferrell was set to star in a four-episode arc on on The Office. Since then, there has been much speculation that he might become Steve Carell‘s permanent replacement. TV Line is now reporting that James Spader, Ray Romano and Catherine Tate are set to guest on the hour-long May 19 season finale as candidates for the vacant office manager position. They join previously announced finale guest stars (and possible Michael Scott replacements) Will Arnett and Ricky Gervais.

Black Dynamite further chronicles the exploits of the central character, ex-CIA agent and full-time ladies man Black Dynamite, and his crew as they avenge the death of Black Dynamite’s brother against kung-fu masters, drug-dealing pimps and The Man and his crew. The series is being developed for us by Carl Jones (The Boondocks), and it will feature the voices of the cast from the original film, which includes Michael Jai White, Tommy Davidson, Kym Whitley and Byron Minns.

Video games

Dead rising 2 getting a spinoff of sorts. In the original Dead Rising, photo-journalist Frank West was the main character. Trapped in a mall with a bunch of zombies didn’t bother him in the slightest. Rather than cowering in the corner, he got out the plastic heads of Megaman characters and just started plunking them down on zombie heads. For the sequel, Dead Rising 2, Frank was replaced with Chuck Greene, a motocross superstar who wasn’t adverse to killing a few hundred zombies himself. This was all fine and good, but it begged the questions: what if Frank had starred in the sequel instead?

Street fighter X(cross) tekken characters announced…
ryu, chun li, guile, kazuya mishima, nina Williams, able, bob, king, marduk, ken masters,
more fighters to be announced soon that will number in the dozens.

Send Shyamalan back to film school…

A new site is dedicated to crowdsourcing funds to send Razzie-winning filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan back to film school.

M. Night School says: “If we all donate just one dollar, we can send M. Night back to NYU so he gets the help we all so desperately need. Let’s make it happen so we can get him enrolled before he starts principal photography on 1000 A.E.”

The site says if they raise the funds but Shyamalan refuses their check then they’ll start a scholarship in his name instead and “send the NEXT Tarantino to NYU.”

One of the site’s founders, Chris Baker, told Entertainment Weekly that he suspects Shyamalan will “probably be a little hurt” when he learns of the site, but he isn’t that concerned. “His movies do make money, for better or for worse, which is kind of the irony of the whole thing,” said Baker.

Is this over the top? Favorite Shammy movie? Where did he go wrong? Was it the hype that hurt him or just bad film making? Rumors he’s doing a movie with will smiths kids, what will he have to do to save himself?

Quick hits

Movie news…
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will be the final chapter in Christopher Nolan’s Batman run. Once he’s finished, the character will be rebooted (with Nolan’s input), and, most likely, attached to a narrative that will lead to a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie in 2013. It sounds like they’re hoping to mimic the Marvel strategy, which has been all about assembling THE AVENGERS for a 2012 release (production on that film is already underway. More interesting to me is Devin Faraci’s observation that Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will be the first time we see a filmmaker’s superhero run reach a definitive end. While I’m told there’s some nervousness (if not outright displeasure) about this at WB, there’s very little they can do: this is Nolan’s show, and he’s going to finish it on his terms.

Which means WB will be watching the box office returns for Sony’s THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN very closely…

the plan is to release “Green Lantern” this summer, then “The Dark Knight Rises” next summer and “Superman” next December. “Justice League of America” will likely come next, which will then be followed by “Flash,” Wonder Woman” and a “Green Lantern” sequel.

What does this mean for christoper Nolan and the legacy of TDK if its immediately rebooted? Is putting it out the year after Nolan wraps oversaturating the market? Is it already oversaturated? Who do you wanna see as the new batman? What story lines for justice league are out there for them to do? Are you a justice league fan? Whats your favorite member of the league?? If any of these movies are a failure will we not see a justice league movie?

Super Man news…
Official word is out from director Zack Snyder himself, that Academy-award nominated actress Amy Adams is joining Superman: Man Of Steel as none other than Lois Lane! Check it out!

The folks at the LA Times’ Hero Complex has landed an exclusive on whose the latest to join Zack Snyder’s much-anticipated Superman: Man Of Steel. Portraying none other than the lovely Lois Lane, The Fighter Academy-award nominated actress Amy Adams is set. Check out what Snyder had to say.

“There was a big, giant search for Lois,” Snyder said. “For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”

Does she work for you? Who would you rather see in this role?  She reminds me to much of Nicole kidman, shes also gonna be in a movie with tom cruies, what are the chances he gets drunk and thinks shes his ex and takes a swing at her?

Sucker punch disappoints at the box office last week, coming in second to diary of a wimpy kid 2, whats your thoughts on this, what did you think of the movie, will this movies failure affect superman?

Bill and ted is a go according to Keaunu. We covered this in one of our first shows. How does this work today?  Aren’t they much older now? Will they play up that angle?

Episode 27: Insiders Are Liars

Posted on 24 March 2011 by TH3 No08

This week on Noob Radio, Richard and Christian discuss why Variety insiders are “Liars”, what they think of Steven King writing for The Walking Dead, as well as full discussion of the disaster known as SXSW 2011. All this and much more on this episode of Noob Radio…

Quickhits…

Movie…
world war Z is on the rocks, may not happen, budget too big 135 million, studios want a pg 13 movie, even brad pitt probably cant save this one at this point, why no big budget horror movies? World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War is a 2006 post-apocalyptic horror novel by Max Brooks. It is a follow-up to his 2003 book The Zombie Survival guide…

EW Source Says Variety’s ‘Insiders’ Are Liars: Joseph Gordon Levitt Is Not Playing Alberto In DARK KNIGHT RISES!!   Entertainment Weekly has an unnamed source “close to the situation” who indicates Joseph Gordon Levitt will not play Alberto Falcone. So maybe Levitt will play Hugo Strange after all? Is he or isn’t he? Why don’t they just come out and tell us? What do they have to gain by keeping it a secret?

Darrnen Arnofsky has left wolverine. Some say its money issue, he says he doesn’t want to be away for the year its gonna take to make the movie, and some say he wants to much control over the movie. Has he earned the right to have the power? Who’s gonna take his place? Do you even care about this movie if aranovsky’s not directing?

Television

Will Arnett of SNL and arrested development fame will join will ferrel and ricky gervais on the season finale of the office, many believe will Arnett will be the new office manager next season, he is backed by ricky gervais who suggested him on twitter a few months back. Thoughts on Arnett?

Steven King to team up with walking dead producer frank darabont  to write episodes of walking dead next season. They have previously worked together on the mist and the green mile, probably the two best steven king adaptations. High hopes for steven king?

Movie news…

Conan trailer hit, didn’t like it, not interesting at all to me, general consensus was”meh”. Thoughts? Thoughts on the original?

20th Century Fox is looking to bring on 30 Days of Night director David Slade to develop the studio’s reboot of the Marvel’s Daredevil. For those of you not really familiar with Slade’s work he also directed Hard Candy, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and is going to be directing the new Dracula story The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Can david slade fix this mess? Why did the first version not work? I didn’t like the bad guy character, too campy for me.

Alec Baldwin drops out of mib 3…

Baldwin had been set to star as the head of the 1969 era Men in Black agency. His portion is currently being rewritten and production is scheduled to start at the end of March. At least he’ll be starring and singing in Rock of Ages, opposite Tom Cruise and Julianne Hough. With all the setbacks will this ever get made? Did you like the other mib’s?

Television news…

Steve carell’s last day on the office is official
It looks like Steve Carell’s final appearance on “The Office” will take place on April 28, the first day of May sweeps. He will be joined on that episode by Will Ferrell as his temporary replacement. This looks to be the culmination of a season long plot in which the relationship status of Michael Scott and Holly Flax will finally come to a head. Thoughts? What will he do now? Are you interested in his future show idea for a mailman style sitcom?

No ordinary family looks to be dead. Both lead actors are shooting pilots for other networks. Deadline Hollywood reports exclusively that julie Benz is starring as a hot ghost in an untitled CBS supernatural drama. Michael Chiklis is also at CBS, shooting the sitcom pilot “Vince Uncensored.” Did you watch? That’s probably why it was canceled…

The premiere of Steven Spielberg’s time-traveling Fox dinosaur adventure “Terra Nova,” originally targeted for midseason then delayed until May 23, has been delayed again. The premiere is now headed to autumn. It s blames on the ambitious special effects. If the show is so effects heavy, will they be able to keep up with it once full time productions hits?

Video Game News
Home front hit this last Tuesday to mixed reviews. Takes place in future America with allied korea taking over US. Not a big fan of FPS but ill take a look at this one. Written by same person who wrote Red Dawn.

Mortal Kombat Demo dropped last week on PS3, is it still relevant? Did you play the original? I bought a sega just to play the version with blood…

Rovio’s own “Mighty Eagle” Peter Vesterbacka is out ruffling feathers again. Following his jovial-turned-contentious talk at the Game Developer’s Conference, Vesterbacka came loaded for bear at South by Southwest Interactive in Texas this weekend. At a panel moderated by Venture Beat, Vesterbacka continued his thread of mobile games being an exciting place, full of innovation, which is something tough to argue against. However, Vesterbacka went on to declare that console games are “dying” and the idea of paying $50 for a game is going the way of the dodo. Angry birds has been downloaded over 100 million times…

Quentin Tarantino May Be Prepping a Spaghetti Western:

f it wasn’t already clear by the way he’s employed Ennio Morricone music in several of his films, Quentin Tarantino loves himself some spaghetti westerns. Now, though, it appears he’ll be mounting one himself: Actor Franco Nero revealed that he’ll be costarring in Quentin Tarantino’s next film, said to be a tribute to Sergio Leone, and AICN confirmed the rumor and added Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds breakout Christoph Waltz to the cast. The site says it’ll shoot later this year in Italy and Spain, and as the In Memoriam tribute at last night’s Oscars reminded us, this will be Tarantino’s first project without longtime editor and collaborator Sally Menke, who died last year.

Chris Roberson (Interview)

Biography

Chris Roberson grew up near Dallas, Texas, and attended the University of Texas, Austin. Graduating with a degree in English literature and a minor in history, he held a variety of jobs – including seven years as a product support engineer for Dell computers – before quitting his job in 2003 to launch small press MonkeyBrain Books.

He cites his upbringing in the seventies and eighties, as his major inspiration, since science fiction was particular commonplace in America at that time, saying:

“Everything from Saturday-morning cartoons to comic books to late-night B-movies to pulp novel reprints to blockbuster summer movies–it was all science fiction, in one form or another.”[1]

After college, he has suggested that he leaned towards becoming a more literary, post-modernist writer, even writing a couple of novels to that end, which he adamant will never see the light of day, after realising that he simply “wasn’t depressed enough for that line of work”.[1] In his twenties, he wrote a couple of mystery novels, seeing them as a commercial venture, but found himself skirting around turning them into ‘genre’ titles, falling between the two camps of mystery and science fiction, and interesting publishers of neither. Ultimately he settled on writing science fiction, saying:

“My brain tends to work along the lines of science fiction tropes. Whenever I run into an odd little bit of trivia, some obscure historical fact or odd scientific principle, I can’t help but start thinking of ways I could use it in a story.”[1]

His writings have received positive reviews from Locus Magazine, The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Asimov’s Science Fiction, The New York Review of Science Fiction, Infinity Plus and RevolutionSF.[1] He lives in Austin, Texas with his wife (Allison Baker) and their young daughter, Georgia.[2]

Clockwork Storybook

Main article: Clockwork Storybook

From 1998 to 2002, Roberson was part of writer’s collective Clockwork Storybook, alongside noted comics author Bill Willingham (Fables), Matthew Sturges (co-writing with Willingham of Jack of Fables) and Mark Finn (Robert E. Howard scholar and playwright).

Starting as a writing group, CWSB became an online monthly anthology, and then a publishing imprint of the same name. Roberson produced four novels under CWSB, as the collective attempted to capitalise on the Print On Demand revolution. This ultimately fell through, and the four went their separate ways.

Two (to date) of Roberson’s CWSB books have been subsequently expanded and reprinted. Any Time At All (Sep, 2002) became Here, There & Everywhere (Pyr, 2005)(Right.), and Set The Seas On Fire (Dec, 2001) was expanded for its April, 2007 release by Solaris. Voices of Thunder (Feb, 2001) has been revised to become Book Of Secrets for upcoming publication by Angry Robot in August, 2009.

Post-Clockwork works

Focusing, after the demise of Clockwork Storybook, on his writing, Roberson sold a short story (his first professional sale) to Roc anthology Live Without a Net, under the editorship of Lou Anders. It was published in 2003, and paved the way for future sales to Asimov’s Science Fiction and other anthologies. In 2004, Anders, (by now considered by Roberson “something of a personal patron”) by now an editorial director at Prometheus Books’ new SF imprint Pyr, bought an expanded version of one of Roberson’s CWSB books Any Time At All, which was published in 2005 as Here, There & Everywhere.(Right.)

In 2003, having “discovered.. in the few years of helping run the CWSB imprint, that [he] really enjoyed being a publisher,” Roberson started up his own imprint. Partly this move was inspired by the dissolution of CWSB, and Roberson having discovered a few projects by writers that he had wanted to bring out under that banner. He decided, however, that MonkeyBrain Books would deal exclusively in “traditional offset trade-paperbacks and hardcovers,” distributed internationally, rather than printed on demand.[3]

He has also contributed several stories to the annual Tales of the Shadowmen anthologies.

MonkeyBrain

Main article: MonkeyBrain Books

Since 2003, he is the publisher (along with his business partner and spouse Allison Baker) of MonkeyBrain Books, an independent publishing house naturally based in Austin, Texas, which specialises in genre fiction and nonfiction genre studies.

In November, 2005, Roberson edited the first volume in a projected annual series of Adventure anthologies, comprising “original fiction in the spirit of early twentieth-century pulp fiction magazines” across the genres, featuring contributions from (among others) Lou Anders, Paul Di Filippo, Mark Finn, Michael Moorcock and Kim Newman. (Many of which featured authors would become MonkeyBrain stalwarts.)[4]

Comics

In July 2008, at the Comic-Con International in San Diego, it was announced that Roberson will be working on a comic book miniseries set in the universe of the DC/Vertigo series Fables, created by fellow-former-Clockwork Storybook author Bill Willingham.[5]

Roberson’s miniseries is titled Cinderella: From Fabletown With Love, and described by the author as featuring “spies, sex, and shoes.”[5] Illustrated by Shawn McManus and released in late 2009 / early 2010, it “answer(s) the question of what happened to Cinderella’s fairy godmother.”[5] Roberson has been selected by DC Comics to finish the Grounded story arc in the Superman monthly title. [6] [7]

Awards and nominations

He has been a finalist for the World Fantasy Award three times – once each for writing (2004), publishing (2006), and editing (2006). (For Adventure Vol. 1, left.) On two occasions he has been a finalist for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer. He won the Sidewise Award for Alternate History Long Form in 2009 for The Dragon’s Nine Sons. He has also been nominated twice for the Sidewise Award for Alternate History Short Form, which he won in 2004 with his story “O One”.

His novel Paragaea was included in Waterstone’s Top Ten SF list for 2006.[8]

Movie News…
Jonathan and Howard Ford’s South African zombie film The Dead is to begin distributing to cinemas starting with a US
theatrical release that is currently scheduled for this summer. The story is set in the very near future where most of the world has yield to the virus of the living dead. After crashing off the coast of Africa, Lt. Brian Murphy fights for survival across the country in search of a way to get back to his family in the US. Saved by local soldier Daniel Dembele, who is also searching for his son, the two join up, all the while battling against the ever-present zombie threat.

James Franco is in talks to star as the lead role Kaneda in the live action feature-film Akira. The flick will be based off of anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo’s six-volume cyberpunk manga (Japanese word for comics). Warner Bros. has tapped director Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli) to helm the project, along with Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way.

Training Day/Brooklyn’s Finest helmer Antoine Fuqua is set to direct a Tupac Shakur biopic titled Tupac, which will go into production in late Spring/early Summer 2011. The film will be shot on location in Los Angeles, New York, Georgia and Las Vegas and is currently being cast. Here is how Morgan Creek describes the story:

The film chronicles the life and legacy of Tupac Shakur, including his rise to superstardom as a hip hop artist and actor, as well as his imprisonment and prolific, controversial time at Death Row Records, where he was steeped in the East coast/West coast rap war.
Tupacs mother gave it her blessing, will you give it yours?

Video Games…

The Mar. 22 release date for the PC version of Crysis 2 came early for software pirates. Over the weekend, the game appeared on popular torrent websites, where players have since been uploading spoiler-filled gameplay footage to YouTube. every played crysys 2? hasn’t pirating already killed pc gaming?

Next week Killzone 3 will finally reach eager gamers waiting for their next chance to ruthlessly murder some Helghast. To commemorate this event, Sony has announced a new PlayStation 3 bundle that, because of its price, is worth a second look. 299

Episode 22: Noob Radio (yes we changed our name)

Posted on 10 February 2011 by TH3 No08

This week on Noob Radio Richard and Christian discuss why Fox News hates video games, what big name actor is not returning to The Dark Night Rises, and all their favorite movie trailers that premiered during last sunday’s Super Bowl. All this and much much more on this episode of Noob Radio…

We changed the name of our show but everything else is still the same. No reason why, just thought this one sounded cooler…

Here’s this weeks rundown of the show…

Last Sunday was Superbowl regardless of game its about the commercials, 3 million dollars for 30 seconds…
Superbowl commercial favorites…

QUICK HITS…

Movie News…
Liam Neeson Will NOT Return As Ra’s Al Ghul In The Dark Knight Rises, what about Talia Al Ghoul, his estranged daughter and
batman love interest?

Michael Moore suing the Weinsteins
The movie grossed $222 million worldwide and became the top-earning documentary ever; Moore says the profits were supposed to
be split fifty-fifty, but the Weinstein’s used “bogus accounting methods” to funnel money to their own expenses, including
trips to Europe via private jet…
will this eventually lead to the studios being investigated for this type of accounting?

James Franco in Early Talks for ‘Oz’ After Johnny Depp Passes
The Oscar-nominated host of the Academy Awards is in early talks to star in Oz, the Great and Powerful, Disney’s prequel-ish
take onThe Wizard of Oz tale being directed by Sam Raimi.
is he too young for the role of the great oz? does anyone really care about the wizard of oz world anymore?

Video Games…
Fox News has warned parents off of the upcoming M-rated game Bulletstorm (calling it “the worst video game in the world”),
alleging that it and other games in the same vein are directly responsible for an increase in the incidence of rape.
first off bullet storm doesn’t even come out untile feb 22, how can it be responsible for rape when only a few people have
even played the game? do games make you violent? i’ve played violent games since 1985, the first video game i ever played, duck hunt, i spent hours trying to figure out how to shoot the dog who laughed at me when i missed, but i never omitted a violent act against another person that was even remotely inspired by a video game.

LG Wants PS3 Sales Banned in the U.S.
says sony violate several patents including the bluray player in the ps3, this comes after several back and forth lawsuits as
they each sued each other over various components they say violate each others patents…
what happens if LG wins and ps3s are banned, does the sky fall in? do they stop selling ps3 games?

Television News…
Super Bowl XLV averaged 111 million viewers and netted 162.9 total viewers, breaking the previous record for the most-watched
TV program in history. The game also had a 71 share — meaning that more than two-thirds of the televisions being watched in the country at that time were watching the Super Bowl on the Fox network. That’s the highest audience share for a Super Bowl since 1982, a time when there were far fewer television networks as competition. what makes the superbowl the biggest draw in tv? everybody else in television is down in rating yet the superbowl continues to rise… cosby at it’s height was 25 million viewers, now american idol is tops but barely gets 15 million viewers..
is it the influence of the internet, or is the amount of channels available?
