It seems like only yesterday that i brought you home, all shiny with that new console smell. I had waited a long time to pick you up in the hopes that the price on you would come down but I had a pocket full of money and you looked like a orphaned puppy in need of a new home. I remember the first game we played like it was yesterday. we popped in a fresh copy of GTA IV and set out on a great adventure that I still think about to this day. It was a great first couple of months that turned into a great couple of years. What a ride huh?
Truth be told the real reason I bought you wasn’t the great games you promised but the opportunity to watch movies in HD for the first time. We picked up RAMBO and when we popped it in for the first time we were stunned. The picture was amazing. No more silly compression artifacts or low quality AC3 audio for me! We jumped straight into 720p video and uncompressed audio that damn near blew the windows out with that high bit rate and thunderous low end. (I know, I know, 720p was all my tv could handle at the time but that has since been remedied as I know rock the full 1080p plasma. Trust me the wait was worth it.)
You weren’t just a great console/entertainment center you were also a great friend to my kids who have both grown up playing your awesome games. I still remember the first time my 3 year old son and 6 year old daughter went multi-player on Lego Star Wars. I watched in amazement as they got along and played cooperatively on a video game that was graphically light years ahead of anything I could have imagined just a few years ago. In my children’s short time as video gamers they have experienced gaming opportunities that I never dreamed was possible as a child who grew up playing Super Mario Bros and Zelda on a little 12 inch black and white television.
It seems a bit ironic that you died just a few hours into what was one of the most promising new games I’ve played in a long while. Batman Arkham City was just too much for your little processor/Blu-Ray drive to take. So while I will soon replace you I will not be getting rid of you anytime soon. You have now become a 400+ dollar Netflix player who I hope my children will appreciate and take care of when you move off the big tv and up stairs to one of the kids rooms. In closing I’d like to thank you for the hundreds of hours of entertainment you’ve provided my kids and I over the last few years and I look forward to your shiny new replacement who may take your place on my entertainment console, but will never take your place in my heart.
RIP Gamestation 226, The best console a boy could have ever hoped for.
I loved watching the X-Files and I still do watch if from time to time on Netflix but it just never really translated to the big screen for me. Taking the short form story arc we’re used to watching and stretching it out for a full two hours just seems to takes away something that’s really caused the movies to come off a bit flat. With that being said there’s been rumors going around for a while of a third film in the series and those rumors may be true. We found out today that Gillian Anderson hopes that the film will be released next year. Kylie Speer of the Australian breakfast show Sunrise, tweeted the following,
Just interviewed Gillian Anderson…she is super stunning in real life and said she hopes a new #X-Files 2012 movie will be out next year!
So there you go, X-Files 3 coming in 2012. At least according to some Australian on twitter.
I’m not a huge fan of FPS games but I did enjoy the first Resistance and though I never picked up the second one this games looks pretty amazing. If the actual game-play is anywhere close to what we see in these teaser trailers this could be game of the year material.
America is lost. 4 years after the end of Resistance 2, dishonorably discharged Sentinel Joseph Capelli is in hiding from the Chimeran Menace with other survivors, including his new wife and young son.
But when Dr. Fyodor Malikov arrives with the opportunity to deliver a blow to the occupying Chimeran force, Capelli must leave his family and journey the harrowing road from Oklahoma to New York City. Along the way, he
Michael Bay is never one to take the mellow route in film making and certainly has pulled no punches in the filming of T3. Here’s a very cool look at one of the crazier sequences that was actually filmed with real people. Check out this very cool featurette with a look at the behind the scenes of the Chicago base jumping sequence.
With the massive opening weekend of The Hangover 2 already putting it on the fast track to being the highest grossing R Rated Comedy of all time it should come as no surprise that The Hangover 3 is already being fast tracked. According to Tracking Board, Hangover 2 co-screenwriter Craig Mazin has already begun working on the third Hangover flick, with the promise from director Todd Phillips that they would not follow the same template of the first two films. This is certainly good news as the major complaint I had with part 2 (as well as most other movie reviewers) was the rehashing of certain elements from the first film to a lesser effect. If they take this film in a completely different direction and are still able to keep the same level of funny that was brought to the first two, they can keep making this movies for as long as they feel like it.
The internet is running wild with rumors regarding the IPad 3 and whether or not it will have glasses free 3d capability or not. Apparently developers have been working like mad to come up with content for the future release of the IPad and Hollywood producers are clamoring for more 3d content. This could very well be the death knell for the already much maligned Nintendo 3ds. Apple Releasing technology that not only plays games in glass free 3d as well as movies would certainly be a game changer for Nintendo and probably push them out of a market they probably weren’t well prepared to get into in the first place. From it’s release the Nintendo 3ds has been plagued with complaints of not only eye strain and technical problems with the games but a general lack of good content beyond the basic 3d gimmick. I would hope that Apple would be a little more prepared and do a little more testing on it’s 3d technology before releasing it to the general public to avoid such embarrassing issues.
The guys who brought us one of the most interesting films I’ve seen in a while look to bring a fresh take to a film that’s part of one of the creepier film series I’ve seen in some time. Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman who directed the art house film “Catfish” have been hired to direct the next iteration of Paranormal Activity. This is very exciting news that certainly raises my interest level regarding PA 3. The sequel to PA 1 was pretty much a rehash of the first film and if they wanna keep people interested in this series they better come with something good. Either way it looks like we won’t have to wait too long to see the results of their work as PA3 hits theaters October 21, 2011.
Let’s face it, there are a million different comics out there. Sometimes the only way you’re gonna find out if something is good or not is if someone walks up to you and hands you a comic and says “Here, read this and tell me what you think”. That’s pretty much what happened with “Brawn” when we met writer Anthony Rezendes for an interview at Staple here in Austin recently and surprise, it’s actually pretty good.
Bill Murray was a phone-in guest at The Howard Stern Show yesterday, and he addressed a number of issues that he’s never really talked about before — including the fact that he hasn’t yet gotten around to reaing the Ghostbusters 3 script that had been sent to him last year.
What follows is a Ghostbusters 3-centric excerpt from that interview:
In the same article from THR that confirms Marion Cotillard’s involvement with Christopher Nolans upcoming Batman threequel, the site also mentions Kate Winslet’s name..
I guess this one slipped by us! But along with Marion Cotillard THR mentions some other ladies possibly in line for a role in The Dark Knight Rises. Two of them have popped up before in connection with the movie, but Miss Winslet has not..
Nolan had been focusing on finding the romantic lead for Christian Bale in recent weeks, reading and meeting with several actresses, including Kate Winslet, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts, according to insiders.
Both Watts and Weisz have been brought up as contenders for the role before but, along with Winslet, it appears they may still in the running, although apparently the role is Cotillard’s if she wants it. But she is expected to give birth in May when the film goes into production. Still nothing solid on the character these actresses are up for. The popular theory is Talia Al Ghul, but looking at the other contenders and the fact that we already have one female villain in Anne Hathaway’s Catw..uh, Selina Kyle, I reckon it’s either Sarah Essen or Vicki Vale. Of course there are lots of other possibilities. The character may not have even appeared in the comics before. What do you think?
Uncharted 3 Drakes Deception hit the airwaves last night appearing on the Spike TV video game awards show and the thirty second teaser clip did not disappoint. Featuring some of the most realistically rendered cg cut scenes i have ever seen in a game, i was literally blown away by what they have created. Each new generation of this game seems to bring us closer and closer to the photo realistic gaming we’ve been told would
