Is This Finally The End For The Simpsons?

Posted on 05 October 2011 by Christian

We don’t cover tv’s longest running sitcom too regularly here but with Fox threatening cancellation after this season ends we feel it’s worth reporting on. Click for the details..

The Simpsons is a true phenomenon. Not only is it tv’s longest running sitcom (and an animated one at that) but it has graced pretty much every medium and paraphernalia known to man including clothing, lunchboxes, stamps, DVDs, a feature film, video games and of course comic books. Loved by all for a time, many now feel that the show has run its course and is simply not as funny as it used to be. However you feel about it the fact remains that it is still Fox’s biggest money spinner and now it seems like the show may finally be cancelled due to a money dispute between them and the show’s main voice cast. Doh?

From The Daily Beast

The reason is a negotiating impasse between the studio and the six principal actors who voice the beloved characters on the animated series that hilariously satirizes middle-class Midwestern angst.

Difficult bargaining is nothing new for the show, which was created by James L. Brooks and Matt Groening. Fox studio execs have occasionally threatened to replace uncooperative cast members with sound-alike actors. But for the first time in nearly a quarter century of haggling, the executives have insisted that if the cast doesn

Is the Locke and Key series coming to a cable network near you?

Posted on 08 September 2011 by TH3 No08

Fans of the Locke and Key comic were pretty disappointed when word came out that Fox was planning on passing on the pilot for the show. Well good news for people hoping to see it get picked up as Deadline reports that the series based on the Joe Hill penned graphic novel could end up at MTV. The pilot written by Josh Friedman and directed by Mark Romanek was produced by 20th Century Fox, who ultimately decided to pass on the project due to the cost of producing the series. Subsequent screenings of the pilot at San Diego Comic-Con were so well received that a DVD of the project eventually ended up in the hands of MTV programming chief David Janollari, who liked it enough to warrant meetings. So keep those fingers crossed that it may see the light of day soon. Until then enjoy the trailer that has every so excited for this series.

More Information on Why Aronofsky Left The Wolverine

Posted on 18 March 2011 by Christian

His family may not be the reason for him abandoning the project. Could Fox’s ever-present pressure be the real reasoning?

It’s no secret that Fox has a history of being over-bearing when it comes to their films, especially when it comes to the X-Men franchise. One only has to look at films like X-Men: The Last Stand to see the end result of that. More recently, we’ve heard rumors of Fox rushing Matthew Vaughn and the production on X-Men: First Class. Time will tell if their pressure will be evident in the final product.

Today, we learned that Darren Aronofsky would be leaving The Wolverine, stating that the production would be pulling him away from his family for too long and he couldn’t do that. So he opted to step down, leaving 20th Century Fox to scramble for a new director. But the folks over at Cinema Blend may have the real reason why he bailed.

One of their long time scoopers(who happened to fill them in about Jon Favreau leaving Iron Man 3 months before ti was announced) has informed them that Aronofsky pulled out due to Fox’s unwillingness to allow him to have full control over the film, much like Warner Brothers has done with Christopher Nolan and the Batman films.

…but he

Posted on 18 March 2011 by Christian

Daredevil rumor day continues! This time it’s Tron Legacy’s Garret Hedlund that is said to be eyeing up the role of Matt Murdock in David Slade’s movie..

Yes, this is getting a bit silly. Particularly because it’s pretty unlikely that Slade and Fox have begun to think about casting since there isn’t even a script yet! But this rumor from our friends at Lostinthemultiplex suggest that Hedlund is interested in playing Matt Murdock..

Fox Sues Woman For Distributing Deadpool Script

Posted on 30 November 2010 by Christian

They actually went and did it! Fox studious are now taking steps to sue a middle aged mother for 15 million. Click for the details.

I’m sure you all remember the Deapool script leak a couple of months ago. We reviewed it here at CBM, as did many other sites. Although we didn’t actually reprint or post any excerpts from the script, and gave it a glowing review, I was contacted by Fox’s legal team and asked..well, told to remove it in a pretty unfriendly manner. Well, now the same legal team are taking action against flower saleswoman and aspiring screenwriter Patricia McIlvaine. McIlvaine apparently distributed, but did not leak, the Deadpool script along with up to 100 others online. Fox don’t seem interested in pursuing whoever leaked the script, just this woman who for all intents and purposes sent it around in an email.

From McIlvaine’s site..

Two strangers knocked on her door and informed her, in front of her children, 20th Century Fox was suing her for 15 million dollars. Two hours later, after grilling her with questions for two solid hours, they left her stunned and crying in her living room staring at a business card that stated they were

News a few months back that the popular comic series Locke And Key written by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, would be adapted into a television series produced by Steven Spielberg. Now the pilot has officially ordered by Fox and produced by them and Dreamworks TV.

Fox Orders Two New Animated Pilots

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

Apparently not content with mere Animation Domination, Fox continues to bolster its reservoir of potential new toons. Vulture has learned the network has given thumbs-ups to pilot presentations for a pair of new animated projects, including one from web animation star Brad Neely (I Am Babycakes). Combined with recent orders for a show from Jonah Hill and a toon take on Napoleon Dynamite, plus the upcoming mid-season launch of Bob’s Burgers, it’s clear Fox doesn’t plan to simply coast along forever on the strength of The Simpsons and the Seth MacFarlane empire.

Neely, who’s also well-known for his unauthorized audio spoof of the Harry Potter films, is behind a project called Godparents, which sounds a little bit like a darker take on the Katherine Heigl pic Life As We Know It. Specifically, insiders describe it as a “twisted family show about a couple ill-equipped to raise kids who are forced to take care of their godchildren.” Neely is paired on the potential show with animation vet Tim Long (The Simpsons), a former head writer for The Late Show With David Letterman who’s also been published in The New Yorker (yes, the The New Yorker).

Also in the pipeline at Fox: Red Roofs, a half-hour toon about a 12-year-old boy who splits his time between his divorced parents’ suburban homes. Another Simpsons vet, Kushell, is writing and producing via 20th Century Fox TV (which is also the studio on Godparents). Kushell, whose r

Disney Want Marvel Movie Character Rights Back From Sony And Fox!

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

Disney want the rights back to Fantastic Four, X-Men, Daredevil and Spider-Man but it might not be that easy despite the fact that their lawyers are apparently looking through their agreements for some sort of loophole…
Here are the main excerpts from the report over at IESB:

There are four Marvel franchises that Disney does not control and word is they want them back. Three are controlled by 20th Century Fox and one by Sony.

Insiders are telling IESB Disney would love to get Fantastic Four back under their control and that this series, above all, fits the Disney mold the best being the first superhero family.

While Daredevil isn’t considered a first tier character, the Mouse House wants Matt Murdock and his alter ego Daredevil back under the control of Marvel Entertainment.

Disney will never and I mean never, ever, not in a 100 years, get this property back under the control of Marvel Entertainment, just not going to happen. Fox owns all of these properties for perpetuity, in other words, for-ev-ver….for-ev-ver…

Word on the street is Fox has made it very clear that they will not let go of any of the properties under their control for any live action medium.

We’ve also been told that if it ever came to the point where they were going to lose any property they own because of failing to have a movie in production, they would simply produce a low budget, straight-to-DVD feature and stick it in any theater to fulfill their theatrical release clause.

So what about Sony’s Spider-Man franchise? Same thing as the Fox deal, the contracts protect the studio 100% but they do have to continue to make movies with the Marvel characters on a regular basis. Spider-Man is not going anywhere, that also includes Venom.

Bottom line, the Sony and Fox contracts are rock solid. They will both keep their respective properties under their control. But you can be sure because they have plenty of money to spend, Disney will still have those Mickey Mouse lawyers looking for a loop hole….and to that I say, good luck!

As I’m sure you’ll agree, it’s a real pity that Fox and Sony have such a tight grip on these characters especially as the former are well known for making awful movies based on the Marvel superheroes they hold the rights to. I’d love to see Spider-Man teaming up with Daredevil or the Fantastic Four in a shared universe and find it hard to imagine just how amazing it would be to see characters like them given the big screen treatment they deserve from Marvel Studios! Be sure to share your thoughts on this in the usual place!

Fox Offers Wolverine 2 to Darren Aronofsky

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

The choice of Zack Snyder by Warner Bros. to direct Christopher Nolan and David Goyer’s Superman: Man of Steel appears to have wide-spread repercussions for Hollywood‘s other superheroes. The Noob News has just learned that 20th Century Fox today entered into negotiations with Darren Aronofsky to helm the sequel to last year’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but the director is still being offered other valuable consolation prizes by Warner Bros., like Tales From the Gangster Squad, a high-priority project that this blog told you about last week.
Back in August, Fox brass had been focusing on a handful of directors for Wolverine 2, including Twilight Saga: Eclipse director David Slade and Red director Robert Schwentke. At the time, Fox had actually considered Aronofsky its top choice, as had its star, Hugh Jackman: The pair had collaborated on Aronofsky’s ambitious 2006 movie, The Fountain, and are said to still have a close relationship today.
And despite the financial failure of Fountain, Fox bosses were impressed by Aronfsky’s willingness to work frugally on smaller movies and still get big results: Aronofsky directed Mickey Rourke to an Oscar nomination with Fox Searchlight’s The Wrestler, and is generating similar Oscar murmurs for Natalie Portman’s turn as a sapphic, deranged, self-touching, wing-sprouting ballerina in Fox Searchlight’s forthcoming Black Swan.
Until last weekend, though, Aronofsky was far more interested in directing WB’s original take on Superman
