Marvel Studios Moving Forward With Short Films? Agent Coulson To Star In First Two?

Posted on 30 June 2011 by Christian

The rumor of Marvel Studios getting into the business of releasing short films for lesser known characters, a la Pixar, has resurfaced now seeming more plausible! Check it out!

Over a year ago, a huge rumor surfaced suggesting that Marvel Studios was “meeting with writers and directors to work on small scale films based on some of their unknown characters.” While the studios’ president debunked the rumor, he did however reveal his interest in the idea. And now the rumor has resurfaced, via Film School Rejects, not only suggesting the studio has made it more than just an “idea,” but they’ve already filmed two. Read the source’s report below verbatim.

Marvel Studios may be getting into the short film business to help boost their already bustling feature film trade. According to a source close to Marvel Studios, the company is setting some of their staff writers to developing smaller characters in the Marvel universe for future projects. These projects, only proposed as short films at this point, could lead to certain ancillary characters making appearances in future features or even becoming popular enough to headline their own film. hat is certain, though, is that two shorts have already been shot, both featuring actor Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson. These are to be included as special features on the Thor & Captain America DVDs & Blu-Rays that will release later in the year.

Now what may make this plausible; details for THOR‘s Blu-ray release were revealed today, with two mysterious features titled Marvel Studios – The Avengers (Bonus Featurette) and Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant: . Anyhow, the site further states that how well these short films are received, depends on the studios’ decision to move forward with other characters.

Anyhow, if true, THOR hit shelves on DVD/ Blu-ray on September 19th. Also, could the mysterious Isaiah Mustafa-starrer Luke Cage teaser, which it’s creators ordered to be removed, be another one of these shorts? What do you think?

Top Comic Book Movie Trailers…Ever

Posted on 03 May 2011 by Christian

?From comicbookmovie.com

Trailers are a director’s opportunity to generate interest in his/her project. Some directors miss the mark and drive fans away from their movies, others capitalize and convert newcomers into true-believers.

In light of the recent debate about the Thor, Green lantern, Captain America and X-Men-First Class trailers hitting the airwaves, I began to wonder, what truely makes a trailer stand out? What makes a trailer so good (or so bad), that fanboys will jeopardize all their accumulated “street-cred” to publicly proclaim it and the eventual movie a masterpeice?

Well, I got to thinking about this, and in so doing, researched all the comicbook movie trailers I could find. I established a criteria for evaluating the trailers and then compared my evaluations to the “general feel and concensus” others got from the trailer. Then I made a list.

The Criteria:
1. The Movie must have been published as a comic book (or Graphic Novel or Manga) before or shortly after the theatrical release of the movie.
2. Teasers, TV spots, Sneak Peeks, Behind-The-Scenes and Set-visits were not included in the viewing.
3. Both Green band and Red band trailers were acceptable, but red band versions were always considered over Green where available.
4. The Trailer length could not exceed 3 minutes.
5. In instances with multiple movie trailers (eg. Iron man Trailer 1, Iron man Trailer 2 etc), the trailer with the longest running length under 3 mins was selected)
6. Only live action movies were considered, fully animated movies were not included in the pull of considered movies.

The Nominees:
For a list of the nominees, please view the wikipedia list of Films Based on comics. I looked at every one of these movie’s trailers over the course of the last two months, then I spent time comparing their merits.

Selection Criteria:
1. Level to which the trailer engages and/or captivates the viewer.
2. Universality of content (how easily different kinds of people eg. men vs women, old vs. young, fan vs. newbie could understand the content
3. Story exposition or the extent to which the trailer communicates what the movie will be about without revealing the entire plot
4. General feel and concensus of the movie. What did fanboys and new comers to the content think about the trailers (youtube/traileraddict/google video comments and votes)
5. Box office movie performance, as well as movie reviews were not taken into consideration in evaluating the trailers.

And now, without further ado, I present to you…

The Top 10 Comicbook movie trailers…Ever!

10. Casshern

Years before Snyder and Rodriguez would cause us to marvel at the seamless melding of live action and CGI, Kiriya would give us this slick trailer that is a treat even to non-native japanese audiences.

The artist who provided the cover to the recent Captain America movie tie-in has put together his own stunning version of The Avengers giving us an idea of what they might look like together on the big screen…

Thanks to SpiderMedia’s RealIrOnMaN for the heads up!

“A new Thor trailer just debuted, so I thought it would be a good excuse to show a recent study of the cinematic Avengers (they’re mostly based on the concept art that made its way on-line last year). I haven’t really read any Thor comics, but I’m still excited for the movie. I like what I’ve seen so far and I can’t wait to see them all on the screen together.”

The Avengers is set to be released on May 4, 2012!

Will Hulk & Loki Face The Avengers After All?

Posted on 10 December 2010 by Christian

Recent claims for Marvel’s highly-anticipated Avengers movie, has villains in common with Stan Lee’s first original ‘Avengers’ comic. Check it Out!

While the big question regarding Joss Whedon’s highly-anticipated Avengers film, is what villain would cause earth’s mightiest heroes to assemble, various rumors and speculations had the original God of Mischief & Jade Giant in mind. Well a more-recent allegation has made the rumor more of a possibility.

Gregory Littley, who revealed that the first official THOR teaser would debut via Yahoo, says verbatim:

The Hulk will be a villain in #Avengers… but the main baddie is Loki.

As mentioned, theres been heavy speculation of the two villainizing, simply because they did so in the original “Avengers’ comic. However, most of that speculation originated from the devious replies in the actors behind Loki and Hulk, Tom Hiddleston and Mark Ruffalo when questioned whether it was true.

While Gregory states theres more details to come, for now, take this with a grain of salt. I can definitely see them respecting the first comic using the original plot of Loki taking over Hulk in some form or way in the film, though not as the main threat. If true, I’m sure theres a twist, or simply more villains involved. Though that’s quite a lot to deal with, what do you think?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Samuel l. Jackson, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, and Clark Gregg, The Avengers assembles May 4, summer 2012 in 3D. And filming is set to commence early next year.
