First trailer for the Hobbit coming soon?

Posted on 15 November 2011 by TH3 No08

With the news that Dark Knight Rising’s trailer would be hitting theaters in December it got a lot of people wondering what other trailers we would see attached to the big holiday movies and it looks like we may see the first trailer for The Hobbit attached to a December release. According to IGN.com Andy Serkis who plays Gollum in the upcoming Hobbit films recently gave an interview and spoke regarding when we could see a trailer.

There will be a trailer fairly soon, actually. Around Christmas time, I believe. It’s just around the corner.

If I was a betting man I would imagine you would see it attached to Peter Jackson’s next film “The Adventures of TinTin” which hits theaters on December 21, 2011.

The Hobbit BTS Production Diary 4

Posted on 04 November 2011 by TH3 No08

It’s pretty awesome to be able to get an inside look into Peter Jackson’s world of production on his latest film. He’s really allowed a level of access that is rarely seen on a movie of this scale. In the latest production diary we get an in depth look at what goes into creating an epic 3D film. From what I’ve seen and heard regarding the use of 3D in this film I would expect this to blow away any previous films that have attempted to harness this process. That means you Avatar…

First Look at Balin and Dwalin From The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Posted on 15 July 2011 by Christian

Another day, another picture from Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Stop salivating and click the jump.

TIME is the lucky beneficiary of exclusive photos today, as it seems Warner Brothers is slowly distributing exclusive photos to all the major news sources one day at a time. I believe that is a very shrewd approach to drumming up interest in the project.

Description of the two characters:

“Dwarf Lords in their own right, Balin and Dwalin are close relatives of Thorin. Beyond this, these brothers are two of his most loyal and trusted friends. An old warrior, Balin has lived through hard times and fought many battles, yet he harbors doubts about the wisdom of the Quest to retake the Lonely Mountain. Dwalin has no such forebodings

Rob Kazinsky leaves “The Hobbit”

Posted on 25 April 2011 by TH3 No08

The setbacks continue for “The Hobbit” as Peter Jackson announced Rob Kazinsky’s departure via his Facebook page.

I am sad to report that Rob Kazinsky, who was cast in the role of Fili, is having to leave The Hobbit and return home, for personal reasons. Rob has been terrific to work with and his enthusiasm and infectious sense of humour will be missed by all of us. I should say that Rob’s departure will not affect ongoing filming of The Hobbit, nor will it impact work done to date, as we had yet to film much of Fili’s storyline. At the moment we are shooting scenes featuring Bilbo without the Dwarves, which will give us time to find a new Fili. I’ll keep everyone posted with updates as they come.

This from Kazinsky’s Twitter account…

Thanks for all your support, Peter and team have been the most wonderful and supportive team to work for and it

More Set Pics From The Hobbit: Barrel Riding Scene

Posted on 28 February 2011 by Christian

TheOneRing got an exclusive set of photos that show off production tests on a barrel riding scene from The Hobbit movie.

These photos show off production testing a scene for the barrel scenes for The Hobbit movie.

Here is a quote from the photographer…

Just sending you a few pics of the activity going on at the Aratiatia Rapids where they have started filming for the barrell scenes in The Hobbit, they had heaps of safety people there as pretty dangerous stuff, mostly all wound up when I took the pics, but shows the barrels they were using for when the Bilbo Baggins and the dwarves, rode the rapids in barrels to get away from the orcs I think it was. the barrels are pink so as to allow for them being digitalized apparently. the hyab truck was in place to maybe film up the rapids, anyway, they used both ends of the rapids to do the job, as you will see. there are big barrels on the truck, plus a small one, I guess for scaling for Hobbit size?? A couple of pics also of the crew, both safty and filming by the looks of it having smoko.

The Hobbit Stays in New Zealand!

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

With all the back and forth going on with this movie, things are starting to get grounded.

Looks like the uphill climb to get the Hobbit movies filmed is one step closer to being over. New Zealand Prime Minister John Key announced that both “The Hobbit” films are keeping their productions in New Zealand.

Plagued with labor disputes, media fights, bankruptcy, and considerations of moving the production to Europe or other locations, the announcement essentially brings to a close a media whirlwind that has been making headlines for several weeks now. It also means the production is still on track for its planned start in February 2011 with the two films released on December 2012 and December 2013.

Great news! And now we can look forward to the familiar surroundings we saw in all Lord of the Rings films now that production is back in New Zealand.

More News from the Shire

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

The former Doctor Who star who was once rumored to have a role in “The Hobbit” has now confirmed that the rumors true, as well as another former doctor rumored for a role…

A few months back the website bleedingcool received a scoop that actor Sylvester McCoy, mostly known for his starring role as the doctor in Doctor Who, was cast in then director Guillermo Del Toro’s Hobbit movies, the prequel to popular film trilogy “The Lord Of The Rings. Then trouble in many forms hit the movie as well as Del Toro’s departure from what many believed to be a doomed project. Now with Peter Jackson on board and still a lot of trouble the great news of casting announcement has come our way.

Bleedingcool was happy to report that their scoop was indeed true. At the Armageddon Expo in Auckland, New Zealand the actor confirmed he is indeed cast in the (hopefully) upcoming Hobbit films. McCoy will be portraying Radagast The Brown.

The site is also reporting a rumor that popular Doctor Who actor, David Tennant may have also scored a role in the film. This rumor goes unconfirmed as of now, link below.

Peter Jackson Makes First Hobbit Casting Choices

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

Deadline is reporting that Peter Jackson has begun to decide on the actors he’s interested in for The Hobbit.
Deadine reports that it has been confirmed that actor Martin Freeman will be playing Bilbo Baggins, “the adventurous Hobbit whose adventures and discovery of the One Ring leads the story up to The Lord of the Rings. Freeman has appeared in films ranging from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Hot Fuzz to Love Actually.”

Richard Armitage from MI-5 and Captain America: The First Avenger will play Thorin Oakenshield, leader of the dwarves who join Bilbo.

“Despite the various rumours and speculation surround this role, there has only ever been one Bilbo Baggins for us,” Peter Jackson said. “There are a few times in your career when you come across an actor who you know was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin. He is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave — exactly like Bilbo and I feel incredibly proud to be able to announce that he is our Hobbit.

“Richard is one of the most exciting and dynamic actors working on screen today and we know he is going to make an amazing Thorin Oakenshield. We cannot wait to start this adventure with him and feel very lucky that one of the most beloved characters in Middle Earth is in such good hands.”

Aidan Turner (the vampire Mitchell in the BBC’s Being Human) as the dwarf Kili

Peter Jackson: “Aidan is a wonderfully gifted young actor who hails from Ireland. I’m sure he will bring enormous heart and humor to the role of Kili.”

Rob Kazinsky from EastEnders as Fili

Peter Jackson: “Rob is an extremely talented young actor with a huge career in front of him. I’m thrilled that he has agreed to take on the role of Fili. Besides his talent as an actor, Rob is also a champion sword fighter and I’m looking forward to seeing the damage he can do to a horde of marauding Goblins …”

Graham McTavish of Secretariat will be Dwalin

Peter Jackson: “Graham is a terrific actor, with a great depth of experience, which I know he will bring to the role of Dwalin.”

Mark Hadlow from King Kong is cast as Dori

Peter Jackson: “I have worked with Mark Hadlow on many projects, he is a fantastic actor.”

John Callen of Power Rangers Jungle Fury is Oin

Stephen Hunter from All Saints is Bombur

Peter Hambleton of The Strip will play Gloin

Peter Jackson: “I am also proud to annouce the casting of New Zealand actors as Peter Hambleton, John Callen and Stephen Hunter. Fran and I know that they will bring great depth and talent to our Company of Dwarves.”

Says Deadline, “The casting is just beginning, and there will be many more opportunities for the kind of career-changing roles that went in the original trilogy to the likes of Orlando Bloom, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Elijah Wood and Sean Astin. None of this is set, but I’ve heard that James Nesbitt and David Tennant are up for roles, and that Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis are expected to reprise Gandalf and Gollum, though I don’t believe they have made deals. Stephen Fry, Saoirse Ronan and Bill Nighy (as the voice of the dragon Smaug) are possible participants, and Aiden Turner is in contention for the Elf King [which conflicts with what was reported above].”

The Hobbit Is No Longer Filming In New Zealand

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

It seems even more trouble is afoot for the Hobbit movies. Now it appears its being forced to move filming locations.
Here is a quote from Peter Jackson courtesy of Stuff.com:

“The damage inflicted on our film industry by [the actors unions] is long since done. The move has undermined Warner Brothers confidence in the industry and they are now, quite rightly, very concerned about the security of their $500m investment. Next week Warners are coming down to New Zealand to make arrangements to move the production offshore. It appears we cannot make films in our own country even when substantial financing is available.”

Jackson was also quoted as saying he would have loved to stay in New Zealand, but the studio made the final decision to move locations. These movies just cant seem to get on the right track. And to think we got are hopes up after a green light from the studio and a potential release date. Hopefully this movie gets back on track soon because the fans, myself included, are going nuts in anticipation.

It seems the Australian actors union is getting the blame for any recent trouble after starting a boycott of the film. New Zealand minister of economics, Gerry Brownlee, advised New Zealand actors not to associate with Australian others because their influence was

The Hobbit Gets its Greenlight with Jackson Directing

Posted on 06 October 2010 by Christian

The Hobbit has officially been greenlit and has a start date.

After so long, and such back and forth, The Hobbit has finally gotten a greenlight, a director(Peter Jackson), and now an official start date. According to TheWrap.com.

They report that the Lord of the Rings prequel project will begin production in February, as per “an individual close to the” films.
“In the final agreement this week, Jackson’s deal was finalized and MGM and Warner Bros. agreed to give the project its greenlight,” says the site. Sets have already been built in New Zealand and actors have been on hold for months.

Meanwhile,The New Zealand Herald reports that the decision on whether the production will happen in New Zealand is still at least a week away “and in the hands of Warner Bros. despite a ‘useful and productive’ meeting today between filmmakers and Actors Equity.”
