New TV Spot for “CAPTAIN AMERICA”

Posted on 01 June 2011 by TH3 No08

The closer this film gets to dropping the more excited I get about seeing it. Captain America is definitely one of the most iconic of the comic book heroes and if Marvel screws this up it may well be the end of all humanity. Or not. This is an interesting new trailer with a bit of back story on our guy and a good look at Red Skull. Exciting stuff…

Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy

Top Comic Book Movie Trailers…Ever

Posted on 03 May 2011 by Christian

?From comicbookmovie.com

Trailers are a director’s opportunity to generate interest in his/her project. Some directors miss the mark and drive fans away from their movies, others capitalize and convert newcomers into true-believers.

In light of the recent debate about the Thor, Green lantern, Captain America and X-Men-First Class trailers hitting the airwaves, I began to wonder, what truely makes a trailer stand out? What makes a trailer so good (or so bad), that fanboys will jeopardize all their accumulated “street-cred” to publicly proclaim it and the eventual movie a masterpeice?

Well, I got to thinking about this, and in so doing, researched all the comicbook movie trailers I could find. I established a criteria for evaluating the trailers and then compared my evaluations to the “general feel and concensus” others got from the trailer. Then I made a list.

The Criteria:
1. The Movie must have been published as a comic book (or Graphic Novel or Manga) before or shortly after the theatrical release of the movie.
2. Teasers, TV spots, Sneak Peeks, Behind-The-Scenes and Set-visits were not included in the viewing.
3. Both Green band and Red band trailers were acceptable, but red band versions were always considered over Green where available.
4. The Trailer length could not exceed 3 minutes.
5. In instances with multiple movie trailers (eg. Iron man Trailer 1, Iron man Trailer 2 etc), the trailer with the longest running length under 3 mins was selected)
6. Only live action movies were considered, fully animated movies were not included in the pull of considered movies.

The Nominees:
For a list of the nominees, please view the wikipedia list of Films Based on comics. I looked at every one of these movie’s trailers over the course of the last two months, then I spent time comparing their merits.

Selection Criteria:
1. Level to which the trailer engages and/or captivates the viewer.
2. Universality of content (how easily different kinds of people eg. men vs women, old vs. young, fan vs. newbie could understand the content
3. Story exposition or the extent to which the trailer communicates what the movie will be about without revealing the entire plot
4. General feel and concensus of the movie. What did fanboys and new comers to the content think about the trailers (youtube/traileraddict/google video comments and votes)
5. Box office movie performance, as well as movie reviews were not taken into consideration in evaluating the trailers.

And now, without further ado, I present to you…

The Top 10 Comicbook movie trailers…Ever!

10. Casshern

Years before Snyder and Rodriguez would cause us to marvel at the seamless melding of live action and CGI, Kiriya would give us this slick trailer that is a treat even to non-native japanese audiences.

The Noob News Monday Morning Roundup…

The Noob News Monday Morning Roundup…

It’s time to take a look at the numbers from this past weekends box office and see how well Hollywood did filling it’s coffers with gold.

This weekend was dominated by “Battle: Los Angeles”. The summer blockbuster lite destroyed all competition this weekend with a strong $36 million dollar opening despite less than stellar early reviews. Also performing well and still holding strong was the animated film “Rango” who pulled in $23 million after last weeks $46 million dollar opening weekend and looks to be headed towards the $100 million dollar mark.

Disappointments at the box office this weekend include “Red Riding Hood”, the updated fairytale directed by Cahterine Hardwick of

Paul red band trailer

Posted on 24 February 2011 by TH3 No08

I recently had a chance to check this movie out and I really dug it. It was smart, funny, and full of pop cultural sci-fi references much like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Here is the red band trailer focusing on some of the cruder moments in the film, enjoy and check it out when it hits theaters in March.

Kevin Smith turns Sundance on it’s head…

Posted on 24 January 2011 by TH3 No08

There was a lot of hype and hyperbole leading up to Kevin Smith’s premiere of Red State at Sundance and all that quickly became an afterthought when Smith told Hollywood to go fuck itself and bought his own distribution right for 20$. Smith had announced earlier in the year that he would auction of the rights to his movie directly after the premiere and drew a ton of interest for what was sure to be a public spectacle and did not disappoint.

When can you see Red State? Well if you’re willing to shell out anywhere from

Red State trailer hits the interwebz…

Posted on 23 December 2010 by TH3 No08

Kevin Smith hates the press but apparently loves the interwebz cause that’s where he dropped an early teaser for his latest flick “RED STATE”. We’ve discussed on the podcast over the last few months our general feelings regarding this film and his approach to distribution and marketing of it and this trailer doesn’t really change any feelings I have for what he’s trying to do. Smith lists the Weinsteins in the credits (Harvey Boys) so I’m assuming he’s got distribution so we may not be treated to the public spectacle of a post screening auction like he promised but as long as it gets out there I guess that’s really all that matters. The trailer looks interesting, lots of action, creepy looking small town folk, and lots of random gun fire.

The Rango trailer slithers its way onto the interwebs…

Posted on 14 December 2010 by TH3 No08

In a wild west version of our world which just happens to be populated by random english speaking animals, the lizard with the fastest gun is king. That’s the message I take from this awesome trailer for “Rango”, the latest animated tour de force to draw in A list talent. Johnny Depp stars as Rango, a chameleon that aspires to be a swashbuckling hero who finds himself in a Western town plagued by bandits and is forced to literally play the role in order to protect it. This is the first animated feature for special effects company Industrial Light & Magic and they certainly look to have lived up to their potential on this one. You really get the feeling that the various animals exist in some wild west parallel universe and are having the time of their lives shooting it up with bad guys.

An extended look at “HOMEFRONT” the video game…

Posted on 14 December 2010 by TH3 No08

From the writer of Red Dawn and Apocalypse Now comes the story of a fallen America. The year is 2027. The world as we know it is unraveling after fifteen years of economic meltdown and widespread global conflict over dwindling natural resources and America has been take over by The Greater Korean Republic. Sounds like a downer huh? Well this is the part where we pick up our guns, join the resistance and fight back, at least according to the game. The idea of joining the resistance and fighting a common enemy is a theme we’ve seen before from John Milius’s work and I’d be interested to see if he adds anything to the mix we haven’t seen in other games and movies of this ilk. Either way the trailer certainly peaked my interest. Check it out and look for it on shelves in March of 2011.

Heres the official description…
Homefront is set in a near future America in 2027 when a now-nuclear armed Korean People’s Army invades the USA, defeating the United States Army and reducing it to nothing from the superpower it once was. The game is written by John Milius the writer of Apocalypse Now and Red Dawn.

When there

Posted on 06 October 2010 by TH3 No08

Red Dead Redemption is one of my favorite games I’m playing right now and it looks to be getting a lot better in the near future. The official trailer for the Undead Nightmare down-loadable content pack was released today and it looks sick. Huge crowds of zombies, undead animals, more missions, special weapons and playable zombie characters… what else could you ask for? Oh and did I mention all this takes place in the old west? This game just keeps getting better. No word on the release date but I would assume it’s right around the corner as Halloween is only 30 days away.
