There’s been a lot of rumors over the years about whether Hoover was living a secret deviant lifestyle behind closed doors and it looks like Clint Eastwood is exploring those fertile grounds with this latest biopic starring Leonardo Dicaprio as J. Edgar Hoover. With an incredible cast featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Watts, Judi Dench, Armie Hammer, Josh Lucas and Ken Howard this is sure to be an early Oscar favorite.

There’s nothing more exciting than college life in the big city. But complications can follow you from dark places – and not just from your boring hometown. In THE NEW YORK FIVE, Riley’s sister Angie is making a name in the Lower East Side with her new band, and now Riley is the black sheep of the family. Lona’s murky past appears to have been hiding an alarming proficiency for stalkerism, and Merissa and Ren will confront uncomfortable situations involving older men. But who is the “five” in THE NEW YORK FIVE? Find out as Vertigo reunites this cast with its stellar creative team of Brian Wood (DEMO, DMZ, NORTHLANDERS) and Ryan Kelly (LUCIFER, Local) in this standard-sized 4-issue miniseries.
The New York Five is an interesting case of a comic missing it’s mark by just enough the it doesn’t really find a home in the market that may have been interested in it. If it was meant for the female comic fan then I’m not sure they understand what female comic fans are looking for. The New York Five (written by Brian Wood) seems to be full of stereotypes of women that men wish were surrounding them at all times but just don’t really exist in real life. The lusty latina, Merissa Vasquez, struggling to keep her family together while juggling her multiple lovers. The Canadian fish out of water Lona Lo who just can’t seem to find her place in the world, and even the estranged sisters Riley and Angie Wilder who seem to always find themselves being manipulated by the same man. All stereotypes you’d see on any soap opera just not any where in real life.
It is a comic and I understand what they were trying to do and it’s what all comic writers are trying to do, tell an interesting story with interesting characters and keep people coming back every month again and again but to do that I believe you have to have a little truth in your characters not just stereotypes of people you’ve seen on reality shows or television and I found that little bit of truth lacking.
Don’t get me wrong, this is not a bad comic. It’s beautifully drawn and worth a pick up if just for the art. I particularly enjoyed the stark black and white images with the hints of pan-tone in the shadows, the beautifully emotive eye’s, and city-scapes that pop right off the page. Ryan Kelly did a great job of illustrating Brian Woods story and based on the artwork alone I’d certainly be interested in checking out episode number 2.
So if your looking for a beautifully drawn comic about hot chicks with problems living in the hippest city in the U.S. then by all means check it out. Just be prepared for a little soap opera mixed in with your usual comic book fare.
Here’s some of the great art from The New York Five…

About RIO
From the makers of the hit ICE AGE series, RIO is a comedy-adventure, in 3D, about taking a walk on the wild side. Blu is a domesticated Macaw who never learned to fly, living a comfortable life with his owner and best friend Linda in the small town of Moose Lake, Minnesota. Blu and Linda think he’s the last of his kind, but when they learn about another Macaw who lives in Rio de Janeiro, they head to the faraway and exotic land to find Jewel, Blu’s female counterpart. Not long after they arrive, Blu and Jewel are kidnapped by a group of bungling animal smugglers. With the help of street smart Jewel, and a group of wise-cracking and smooth-talking city birds, Blu escapes. Now, with his new friends by his side, Blu will have to find the courage to learn to fly, thwart the kidnappers who are hot on their trail, and return to Linda, the best friend a bird ever had.

If you’ve ever wondered what job you would hold were you living in the Star Wars Universe (and haven’t we all at one time or another) then check out this handy chart I found over at onlineschools.org. Very cool. Incidentally, and much like the real world, there are no podcasting jobs in the StarWars universe. Maybe I’ll try the Potter Universe…
It looks like Dame Judi Dench will reprise her role as M in the upcoming James Bond Sequel. Dench announced the news at the South Bank Sky Arts Awards last night not saying much in the way of details but relaying that she was looking forward to starring opposite Daniel Craig and to working with Director Sam Mendes again…
Dame Dench has appeared in every film since GoldenEye. The only other actors to play M were Bernard Lee in nine films (Dr. No through Moonraker) and Robert Brown who appeared in four of the films (Octopussy through License to Kill).
Bond 23 begins production soon and has a release date of November 9, 2012.

wonder woman is going to pilot
GE’s NBC didn’t like David E. Kelley’s “Wonder Woman” project earlier this month, but Comcast’s NBC just ordered it to pilot.
Based on the iconic DC Comics superheroine, Kelley’s potential series has Diana Prince as a costumed crime fighter by night and a successful Los Angeles corporate executive by day. Elements carried over from the comics include Diana’s lasso of truth, her bullet-deflecting bracelets and her plane.

Over black frame: “Long Days Of Vengeance” by Morricone
“He who seeks revenge should remember to dig two graves.”
- Chinese Proverb
INT. CHERRY RED BENTLEY, BACKSEAT — NIGHT.
It’s pissing rain in buckets outside. A chauffeur in a black
overcoat ushers a wet young woman into the back seat of a
Cherry Red, 1952 Bentley. She settles her soaking wet body
into the white leather seat. The door closes.
A woman in silhouette sits in front of her, she is as still
as a gargoyle statue.
Then a silver zippo lighter with the emblem of a California
Mountain snake washes out the murk to reveal the aged face
of Elle Driver, her eyes covered in white glasses, with dark
frames.
She smirks as she lights up her cigarette.
ELLE DRIVER
How long has it been my sweet,
little Nikki, since you last saw
her face…? Ten. Ten years – since
the killing of your precious
mother.
FLASH ON
INT. VERNITA’S HOME — NIGHT.
Little Nikki sees Bea’s SOG knife being pulled out of
Vernita’s chest.
Hold on Nikki’s little eyes filled with tears and white
blind, hate for the Blonde Amazon who walks past her…
Hold on Nikki’s little clenched fist.
NIKKI (O.S.)
All the old knives That have rusted
in my back, I will now drive into
yours.

EXT. GRAVEYARD — NIGHT.
The Bell family including little Nikki watch Vernita’s
coffin fall into mother earth’s womb.
CUT TO:
EXT. SOUTH AMERICAN JUNGLE — DAY.
Beatrix is hiking by herself. Cutting her path with a
machete through thick shrubbery.
She is blinded by a silvery flash. She falls and tumbles on
the floor. She spits dirt.
Beat. In blindness. A voice permeates the silence.
ELLE DRIVER
Hello, Kiddo…
BEATRIX
(in a whisper)
Elle.
FLASH ON –
Elle’s eye is plucked out in Budd’s beat to shit trailer
home.
CUT TO:
– Elle in stark white fatigues jumps off the ground -
springs off against a tree as she swings down her Hanzo
sword down at Beatrix –
Beatrix rolls out in the nick of time.
Elle stands frozen like a statue with a smirk.
She stands HEARING the sound of the elements.
ELLE DRIVER
Just like old times, ain’t it? –
Beatrix flings the machete with both her hands –
Elle Driver hears the blade cutting air. She deflects it
with her Hanzo sword and laughs.
ELLE DRIVER
You’re gonna have to do a lot
better than that, Kiddo.

The Bride shall fight once more…
This from the guys over at Geek Tyrant, an awesome take on the forthcoming sequel to HP and the DH. This thing oozes doom and gloom while being covered in artistic badassery. It does a great job of capturing the darkness and sadness that runs throughout the final book in the series that the part one of the movie was never able to capture. This is what movie posters should look like. Go pick one up now…
Here’s a couple of cool screen shots from The Hangover 2 featuring a dishevled Ed Helms, a nearly bald Zack Gafanakis and a sweaty (but still cool in his sunglasses) Bradley Cooper. The plot of this movie has been held pretty close to the chest so far but it looks to involve a monkey on a wire (see second picture). This is on my list of must see movie for 2011 and if it’s half as funny as the first one it will be awesome.
Synopsis…
In the follow-up to the record-breaking hit comedy “The Hangover,” Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) travel to exotic Thailand for Stu’s wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don’t always go as planned. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but what happens in Bangkok can’t even be imagined.
Here’s the first look at Andrew Garfield as the new Spiderman. I like the look of the costume. The texture and material looks very cool. I was expecting a more spandex style fabric but this is very nice. It certainly looks better than the first look we got earlier today of the Sinestro costume.
This comes courtesy of the french site Cineheros. The actual character and suit designs looks all digital and fake much like the other green lantern suits but he does look like the comic version of Sinestro. I’ll try and hold off judgement of this movie until i see it but i’ve been a bit underwhelmed by the what I’ve see of it so far…

ComingSoon.net have spoken to Universal Pictures and been given official confirmation that Jurassic Park 4 is not being filmed, despite what the pictures seemed to indicate!
As DCMarvelFreshman reported earlier on today, pictures supposedly showing Jurassic Park 4 as part of the current Universal Pictures production schedule had found there way onto the internet – generating huge excitement among fans.
Well, ComingSoon.net have sadly just debunked the story:
“While we’d love for [it] to be true, we checked in with Universal Pictures who tell us there is no truth to this. We’re not sure how that listing made it onto the board, though we would suspect it was done as a joke by someone.”
What do you think? Are you annoyed that we won’t be getting the fourth installment as soon as thought? Discuss below!
The director expands on his decision to not film The Dark Knight Rises in 3D, shares his thoughts on Heath Ledger winning a posthumous Oscar as well as the future of Inception and how this relates to the Batman movies…
In a fascinating interview with Deadline about his 2010 hit, Inception, the director also dropped in a few interesting bits of information about about the past and future Batman movies. Be sure to follow the link at the bottom of this article to read that, and check out the Caped Crusader related highlight below.
On Why He Decided Not To Film The Dark Knight Rises In 3D:
“In the case of Batman, I view those as iconic, operatic movies, dealing with larger-than-life characters. The intimacy that the 3D parallax illusion imposes isn’t really compatible with that. We are finishing our story on the next Batman, and we want to be consistent to the look of the previous films.”
On How He Felt When Heath Ledger Won A Posthumous Oscar:
” I was extremely gratified to see people responding to work that I knew was great. And I was very proud to have been a part in its creation, or at least in creating a world where a great artist could really show what he could do. It was a great honor to be in any way involved in that.”
On The Future Of Inception And How That Relates To His Batman Movies:
“I’ve always liked the potential of the world. It’s an infinite, or perhaps I should say an infinitesimal world that fascinates me. At the moment, we’re exploring a video game, which is something I’ve been very interested in doing for a number of years. This lends itself nicely to that. As far as sequels go, I think of Inception as one film, but that’s how I approach all my films. When I was making Batman Begins, I certainly didn’t have any thoughts of doing a second Batman film, let alone a third. You never quite know where your creative interests are going to take you, but when I was making Inception, I viewed it as a stand-alone movie.”
The Dark Knight Rises is set to be released on July 20, 2012!
We have already seen one fake script featuring every single Bat villain mentioned in rumor and speculation. But now Scriptflags have been sent a much more authentic sounding document that may or may not be an early draft of Chris Nolan’s third Batman flick..
A while ago a “leaked” script for TDKR popped up online but was quickly debunked as a fake. Well here we go again. Only this time scriptflags have details of a 165 page draft dated 2010. They say that if it is a fake it’s the best fake they have ever come across, and they would see a lot! Anyway, here are the details..
Deadshot is featured being broken out of prison by The Society, headed by The Black Mask.
In Gotham, Batman has become a “myth”. Crime is down so he keeps a low profile. He has a new aerial vehicle called The Wraith, a military prototype with a 40 foot wingspan.
Wayne Manor has been rebuilt, with a new Batcave.
Deadshot meets with Black Mask(who wears an “ebony skull”). He is also an associate of Roland Dagget, CEO of Dagget Industries.
Apparently Nolan has merged the characters of Hugo Strange and Edward Nashton. Nashton, like Strange in the comics, figures out Batman’s identity and toys with him. Despite Nashton’s appearance, no mention is made of The Riddler. He would appear to be a completely different character.
Jim Gordon is said to play out his role almost identically as he does in Prey, hunting Batman with the aid of a Detective Adams.
Talia Al Ghul makes a brief appearance, but no mention is made of a primary female villain, or indeed of the secondary female character Nolan is said to be currently casting. This suggests that if this is on the level, its a very early draft.
That’s pretty much where Scriptflags’ synopsis ends. You can click the link below to see their wording. They make no more mention of the part Deadshot would play or how Talia fits into the story. They say they are waiting for word on its authenticity before going into any more detail. What do you think? Could these be genuine plot details from a draft of Chris and Jonathan Nolan’s TDKR script?

Kevin Smith hates the press but apparently loves the interwebz cause that’s where he dropped an early teaser for his latest flick “RED STATE”. We’ve discussed on the podcast over the last few months our general feelings regarding this film and his approach to distribution and marketing of it and this trailer doesn’t really change any feelings I have for what he’s trying to do. Smith lists the Weinsteins in the credits (Harvey Boys) so I’m assuming he’s got distribution so we may not be treated to the public spectacle of a post screening auction like he promised but as long as it gets out there I guess that’s really all that matters. The trailer looks interesting, lots of action, creepy looking small town folk, and lots of random gun fire. We’ll see how it all comes together in March when it is slated for release.
