Could it be true? Will an official announcement of a ‘JusticeLeague’ movie be coming next month? Or casting announcement for ‘Man of Steel’? Check It Out!!
Fanboy.com (by way of HeroComplex) is reporting that next month at the HeroComplex Film Festival. Geoff Johns & Jim Lee will be attending & will be at the screening of Richard Donner’s ‘Superman’ & ‘Superman II’ (Donner Cut? who knows) but they will be making a ‘HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT” concerning Superman and/or the DC Universe on film.
Superstar comics creators Geoff Johns and Jim Lee say they are bringing bombshell announcements about the future of Superman and the entire DC Universe to the Hero Complex Film Festival on June 11.
Could it just be about the comic event FLASHPOINT & the rumored renumbering of all the titles after the event is over? Being as Johns & Lee are involved it’s likely..but the site also mentions this:
On the film festival website it says of the panel: “…special appearance by DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, discussing the big-screen future of the DC Universe.”
What do you guys think? Could it be an official announcment for a ‘Justice League’ movie? Or maybe an official green light for ‘The Flash’? Or maybe…well we’ll have to wait till June (unless the news leaks) to find out what DC has up their sleeves.
Fan favorite SouperboyX has come up with another winner, with the teaser trailer for a fan edited film called Superman: Genesis, which presents Tom Welling as the Man of Steel far more effectively than the series finale Smallville did.
Click here to read some more pretty cool possible details on Zack Snyder’s upcoming movie ‘Man of Steel’ involving Lex Corp, and those pesky Lindsay Lohan rumors…
This past month there has certainly been no shortage of rumors surrounding Zack Snyder’s upcoming movie ‘Man of Steel’. Rumors have ranged from filming in Canada, Lindsay Lohan being up for a role, Edgar Ramirez, and most recently, the relatively unknown actor Adam Harris auditioning for the role of Lex Luthor.
Now I have gotten my hands on a few more pieces of information for you guys from my source regarding the production about Lex Corp in Chicago, those Lindsay Lohan rumors, and more on Adam Harris. I’ve been in contact with this source for a little while now and they’ve yet to say/do anything that would make me think they are unreliable but regardless, take the rumors however you wish.
- Lindsay Lohan never audtioned for any role with Superman.
- Adam Harris audtioned and has two callbacks with readings with Henry Cavill and Amy Adams.
- Adam has started a physical training program for a more demanding physical Lex Luthor.
- Scripts are being held very tightly. rumored: there are two different versions floating around, there will be a lot of fight scenes toward the end.
- There will be “employee hiring” job fairs for LexCorp in Chicago in the summer.
- A major factory plant in chicago will be playing host to LexCorp industries.
So there you have it folks, if any of you guys are Chicago residents, and if these rumors are to be believed, then you might have the chance to attend a LexCorp job fair.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Michael Shannon will star in the role of General Zod in director Zack Snyder’s new Superman film, titled “Man of Steel.”
“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role,” Snyder stated.
As General Zod, Shannon will go toe-to-toe with Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. The main cast also includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent.
Michael Shannon was honored with an Academy Award® nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Sam Mendes’ “Revolutionary Road,” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Shannon was most recently seen in the award-winning HBO drama series “Boardwalk Empire,” from executive producer Martin Scorsese. He will next be seen in Sony Pictures Classics’, “Take Shelter,” from director/writer Jeff Nichols.
Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
“Man of Steel” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
A possible synopsis for the upcoming movie as well as some apparent plot details reveal new information about the plot including the fact that General Sam Lane and the Kryptonite powered Metallo will be facing off against Superman…
Here is what Movienewz claim to have been told by an anonymous source. There’s a lot of information here, and no reason to doubt their word. The following certainly seems to fit with what we’ve heard from both director Zack Snyder and the various actors involved, but as with any rumor, it’s best to take it with a pinch of salt for the time being!
General Sam Lane, the father of Lois Lane, is a central figure in director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. This really is as Zack described in several interviews about the film, a “real world” Superman. I’m told that when Superman arrives on the scene; people don’t know what to think. He’s an alien from another planet. What are his real intentions? He’s not human and that scares a lot of people. Here’s a guy who can fly, see through walls, is bullet proof and can lift a tank. The military views him as a potential threat to national security. They find kryptonite, pieces of his home planet, and discover its radioactive elements can be harnessed as a near unlimited source of power, both literally and figuratively. It’s a brand new form of energy that is secretly developed by the government. The military, under the direction of General Sam Lane, uses kryptonite to power an experimental cyborg super solider named Metallo. He’s ultimately exploited as a weapon against Superman.
And here is the brief synopsis of the movie which the site describe as an origin story which bares little resemblance to Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie and its sequels.
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.
Pretty interesting, I think you’ll agree! Metallo may seem like an odd choice, but the various ways in which he has been portrayed in the comic books over the years would certainly give Snyder freedom in turning him into a formidable foe for the Man of Steel. Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!
Starring Henry Cavill as Superman and Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Superman: The Man of Steel is expected to be released sometime during the Winter of 2012!
It is undoubtedly a mistake on the reporter’s part, but the Los Angeles Times, in a profile of Warner Bros.’ Jeff Robinov, mentions the fact that a Justice League movie is planned for 2013, following the 2012 releases of Batman and Superman
Says the article, “Robinov, who shuttered Warner’s specialty movie labels in 2008 and infamously passed on releasing the Oscar-winning hit Slumdog Millionaire, wants to keep increasing the number of big-budget ‘tentpoles’ that fuel global revenue. His most immediate hurdle is filling the void that will be left this summer when the multibillion-dollar Harry Potter series shepherded by [Alan] Horn ends. Robinov is betting on DC Comics characters to take center stage starting in June with the $200 million-plus production Green Lantern. HE’S THEN AIING TO RELEASE NEW BATMAN AND SUPERMAN FILMS IN 2012 AND JUSTICE LEAGUE, A TEAMING OF DC’S TOP HEROES, IN 2013.”
What do you think? Is this even a possibility? Just as importantly, do you WANT to see a Justice League movie?
Official word is out from director Zack Snyder himself, that Academy-award nominated actress Amy Adams is joining Superman: Man Of Steel as none other than Lois Lane! Check it out!
The folks at the LA Times’ Hero Complex has landed an exclusive on whose the latest to join Zack Snyder’s much-anticipated Superman: Man Of Steel. Portraying none other than the lovely Lois Lane, The Fighter Academy-award nominated actress Amy Adams is set. Check out what Snyder had to say.
“There was a big, giant search for Lois,” Snyder said. “For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”
“It goes back to what I’ve said about Superman and making him really understandable for today. What’s important to us is making him relebant and real and making him empathetic to today’s audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well. She has to be in the same universe as him [in tone and substance].”
Minor Update: More From Snyder…
“Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about,” Snyder said in a statement Sunday. “So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful.”
When questioned on the feeling of developing a film where every casting choice is a global news flash, ”It’s an epic thing, no doubt. But this good news is the cast is shaping up to fit that.”
While keeping quite on the presence of Lois Lane, Snyder considered her “a linchpin” to the reboot and that it’s prominent that she appear with contemporary appeal and spirit.
Anyhow, with Amy Adams joining Henry Cavill, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner, Superman: Man Of Steel is slated for release Mid-December, next year!
With the latest adaptation being so highly-anticipated, Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man Of Steel will need a fake title during filming. And now it’s been revealed! Check it out!
Off the heels of confirmation of Warner Bros. shooting Superman: Man Of Steelpartially in “Chi-Town” Chicago, a recent issue of Production Weekly reveals what seems to be to be the working title used to intentionally disguise the project during the process of filming. The production update lists:
“Superman – The Man Of Steel” (aka “Autumn Frost”)
While Warner Bros. set the working title “Magnus Rex” for Christopher Nolan’sThe Dark Knight Rises, Director Zack Snyder will begin Supes’ production near-August. And so far starring Henry Cavill, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner,Superman: Man Of Steel is slated for theaters mid-December, next year!
Also, check out the latest fan-art from Hobo95 of DeviantArt, whose fan-madeThor poster recognizably inspired an official one. Hes now created a descent look at Henry Cavill suited up, pictured right, go Here for the full resolution.
A report over at Variety reveals that the actor now has a clear schedule to take a role in the upcoming reboot from Zack Snyder and also mentions that the director is still interested in hiring him…
It looks like there’s been a new development in the search for an actor to portray the villain in Superman: The Man of Steel.
Variety reports that Viggo Mortensen will now NOT be starring in Snow White and the Huntsman, formally ending months of negotiations. Here is an excerpt from their report which makes things a little clearer:
Dropping out of negotiations leaves the door open for Mortensen to take the role of the villain in Warner Bros.’ ”Superman: Man of Steel,” which is scheduled to shoot at the same time as ”Huntsman.”
Warner Bros. would not comment, but ”Superman” director Zack Snyder is reportedly interested in Mortensen.
What do you guys think? Despite both Michael Shannon and Edgar Ramirez recently being linked to an undisclosed villainous role in the upcoming movie, will Snyder now cast the actor who was rumored to be his first choice? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!
We know Viggo Mortenson is out of the picture, but could Snyder be looking to work with his 300 star again, this time as the villain in his Superman reboot?..
I had actually been sitting on this rumor for a while as I couldn’t second source it, and it may still be just talk but The Playlist have evidently given some(small) credence to it too.
While discussing the recent news that Viggo Mortenson will definitely not be starring in the movie they offer the following..
..It’s a shame, as Mortensen was a solid choice for Zod, but we’re sure that it won’t take long to fill the part—vague whispers have suggested that Snyder wants to reunite with his “300” lead Gerard Butler in the role..
They may just be the same “vague whispers” I have heard but with those final few major roles needing to be filled fairly sharpish it’s not too far fetched to think that Snyder would be looking at actors he has worked with in the past. Particularly actors with such a (potentially) intimidating physical presence as Butler. For his part, Butler has settled into rom-com territory recently and could well see this as a chance to get back in to some more action orientated, meaty roles.
IF any of this is even accurate of course. As it stands we don’t even have confirmation that Zod is the villain! Anyway, what would you think of Butler for the role if that was how it transpired?
In an lengthy video interview, Sucker Punch director Zack Snyder hints at the possibility of a character “referred” to as ‘Superman’ appearing in The Man Of Steel reboot! Check it out!
Promoting his action, fantasy, thriller Sucker Punch in a lengthy video interview with JAKE’S TAKES, Zack Snyder, director of Warner Bros’ Superman reboot, cleverly hints at a certain character appearing in the film familiar to the comics.
Discusses potential elements from his previous films that’ll have some affect on Superman at the three-minute mark, Snyder begins “hinting” near the four-minute mark, so check the video out below.
“There could be a character in the movie that other people might refer to as ‘Superman’”
Evidently, while ‘Bizarro’ may be a stretch, in the comics, via Wiki, the character was created by writer Otto Binder and artist George Papp as a “mirror image” of Superman in 1958. And Since then various iterations of Bizarro have appeared – often, but not always, as an antagonist to Superman. What do you think?
Anyhow, with Henry Cavill playing Clark Kent, and parented by actors Diane Lane & Kevin Costner as “Ma” & “Pa” Kent, Superman: Man Of Steel is slated for theaters December 2012! And special thanks to ElijahV for the tip, and Rudyao for the art.
Deadline is reporting that Kevin Costner is confirmed as Jonathan Kent in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel — all we’re waiting for is the press release.
“Almost a month after Deadline told you that Kevin Costner was in early talks for a lead role in Superman: Man of Steel, I hear that he has closed a deal to play Jonathan Kent, the adopted father of Clark Kent. Costner will join Henry Cavill, who is playing the title role, and Diane Lane, who is playing Martha Kent, his adopted mother,” offers the report.”
Of course speculation will intensify over which villain(s) will be utilized and what actors will play them. Deadline rules out the rumored Viggo Mortensen as Zod given his expected signing on to Snow White and the Huntsman, which will star Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron.
UPDATE: Director Zack Snyder has offered up this comment: “Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman. Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest superhero of all time.”

f it wasn’t already clear by the way he’s employed Ennio Morricone music in several of his films, Quentin Tarantino loves himself some spaghetti westerns. Now, though, it appears he’ll be mounting one himself: Actor Franco Nero revealed that he’ll be costarring in Quentin Tarantino’s next film, said to be a tribute to Sergio Leone, and AICN confirmed the rumor and added Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds breakout Christoph Waltz to the cast. The site says it’ll shoot later this year in Italy and Spain, and as the In Memoriam tribute at last night’s Oscars reminded us, this will be Tarantino’s first project without longtime editor and collaborator Sally Menke, who died last year.

Chris Roberson grew up near Dallas, Texas, and attended the University of Texas, Austin. Graduating with a degree in English literature and a minor in history, he held a variety of jobs – including seven years as a product support engineer for Dell computers – before quitting his job in 2003 to launch small press MonkeyBrain Books.
He cites his upbringing in the seventies and eighties, as his major inspiration, since science fiction was particular commonplace in America at that time, saying:
“Everything from Saturday-morning cartoons to comic books to late-night B-movies to pulp novel reprints to blockbuster summer movies–it was all science fiction, in one form or another.”[1]
After college, he has suggested that he leaned towards becoming a more literary, post-modernist writer, even writing a couple of novels to that end, which he adamant will never see the light of day, after realising that he simply “wasn’t depressed enough for that line of work”.[1] In his twenties, he wrote a couple of mystery novels, seeing them as a commercial venture, but found himself skirting around turning them into ‘genre’ titles, falling between the two camps of mystery and science fiction, and interesting publishers of neither. Ultimately he settled on writing science fiction, saying:
“My brain tends to work along the lines of science fiction tropes. Whenever I run into an odd little bit of trivia, some obscure historical fact or odd scientific principle, I can’t help but start thinking of ways I could use it in a story.”[1]
His writings have received positive reviews from Locus Magazine, The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Asimov’s Science Fiction, The New York Review of Science Fiction, Infinity Plus and RevolutionSF.[1] He lives in Austin, Texas with his wife (Allison Baker) and their young daughter, Georgia.[2]
Clockwork Storybook
Main article: Clockwork Storybook
From 1998 to 2002, Roberson was part of writer’s collective Clockwork Storybook, alongside noted comics author Bill Willingham (Fables), Matthew Sturges (co-writing with Willingham of Jack of Fables) and Mark Finn (Robert E. Howard scholar and playwright).
Starting as a writing group, CWSB became an online monthly anthology, and then a publishing imprint of the same name. Roberson produced four novels under CWSB, as the collective attempted to capitalise on the Print On Demand revolution. This ultimately fell through, and the four went their separate ways.
Two (to date) of Roberson’s CWSB books have been subsequently expanded and reprinted. Any Time At All (Sep, 2002) became Here, There & Everywhere (Pyr, 2005)(Right.), and Set The Seas On Fire (Dec, 2001) was expanded for its April, 2007 release by Solaris. Voices of Thunder (Feb, 2001) has been revised to become Book Of Secrets for upcoming publication by Angry Robot in August, 2009.
Post-Clockwork works
Focusing, after the demise of Clockwork Storybook, on his writing, Roberson sold a short story (his first professional sale) to Roc anthology Live Without a Net, under the editorship of Lou Anders. It was published in 2003, and paved the way for future sales to Asimov’s Science Fiction and other anthologies. In 2004, Anders, (by now considered by Roberson “something of a personal patron”) by now an editorial director at Prometheus Books’ new SF imprint Pyr, bought an expanded version of one of Roberson’s CWSB books Any Time At All, which was published in 2005 as Here, There & Everywhere.(Right.)
In 2003, having “discovered.. in the few years of helping run the CWSB imprint, that [he] really enjoyed being a publisher,” Roberson started up his own imprint. Partly this move was inspired by the dissolution of CWSB, and Roberson having discovered a few projects by writers that he had wanted to bring out under that banner. He decided, however, that MonkeyBrain Books would deal exclusively in “traditional offset trade-paperbacks and hardcovers,” distributed internationally, rather than printed on demand.[3]
He has also contributed several stories to the annual Tales of the Shadowmen anthologies.
MonkeyBrain
Main article: MonkeyBrain Books
Since 2003, he is the publisher (along with his business partner and spouse Allison Baker) of MonkeyBrain Books, an independent publishing house naturally based in Austin, Texas, which specialises in genre fiction and nonfiction genre studies.
In November, 2005, Roberson edited the first volume in a projected annual series of Adventure anthologies, comprising “original fiction in the spirit of early twentieth-century pulp fiction magazines” across the genres, featuring contributions from (among others) Lou Anders, Paul Di Filippo, Mark Finn, Michael Moorcock and Kim Newman. (Many of which featured authors would become MonkeyBrain stalwarts.)[4]
Comics
In July 2008, at the Comic-Con International in San Diego, it was announced that Roberson will be working on a comic book miniseries set in the universe of the DC/Vertigo series Fables, created by fellow-former-Clockwork Storybook author Bill Willingham.[5]
Roberson’s miniseries is titled Cinderella: From Fabletown With Love, and described by the author as featuring “spies, sex, and shoes.”[5] Illustrated by Shawn McManus and released in late 2009 / early 2010, it “answer(s) the question of what happened to Cinderella’s fairy godmother.”[5] Roberson has been selected by DC Comics to finish the Grounded story arc in the Superman monthly title. [6] [7]
Awards and nominations
He has been a finalist for the World Fantasy Award three times – once each for writing (2004), publishing (2006), and editing (2006). (For Adventure Vol. 1, left.) On two occasions he has been a finalist for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer. He won the Sidewise Award for Alternate History Long Form in 2009 for The Dragon’s Nine Sons. He has also been nominated twice for the Sidewise Award for Alternate History Short Form, which he won in 2004 with his story “O One”.
His novel Paragaea was included in Waterstone’s Top Ten SF list for 2006.[8]

Hot on the heels of the news that Viggo Mortenson is a “person of interest” for WB and Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, the rumor mill has churned out Daniel Day Lewis’ name. Click for the details..
So we hear Viggo Mortenson is being looked at to star as the villain(probably General Zod) in the Superman reboot. But who else might Snyder and WB have their eye on? Well, it could well be the most brilliant of actors, Mr Daniel Day Lewis.
Moviehole mention that they heard Warner Bros. is considering Lewis for “an unspecified role in this film.” They offer this information almost in passing as they discuss Mortenson’s possible involvement so don’t give this as much credence as the Mortenson rumor for now.
But still, how cool would this be if it was true? Don’t get me wrong. Mortenson is one of my favourite actors but I have always wanted to see what Lewis would do with a CBM role. And the potential to have him play a Superman villain? It may not even be Zod. Check out the pic, could Lewis make a good Lex Luthor? But of course, even if Nolan, Snyder and co ARE looking at Lewis and indeed Mortenson, that doesn’t for one moment suggest that THEY will be interested. Mortenson is said to be a contender for a role in Snow White And The Huntsman so that may be the road he goes down. And although Lewis has signed on for Stephen Spielberg’s Abraham Lincoln biopic, that may not film until next year as Spielberg has his hands full with other projects.
What’s the best way to lend some recognizable gravitas to your superhero movie when it stars a young hunk whom audiences may not have heard of? Hire a co-star who won an Oscar in the nineties! Thor‘s got Anthony Hopkins,Captain America has Tommy Lee Jones, and now Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot may be adding Kevin Costner as backup for man of steel Henry Cavill. Deadline broke the news, though the site hasn’t heard which character he might play. Since Lois Lane is off the table, how about Daily Planet editor Perry White? (Or maybe Costner could appear as himself, if Superman is battling Stephen Baldwin?) [Deadline][nymag]
No, he’s not donning the iconic red n blue duds, but WB have released a picture of Cavill sporting the “S” on his t-shirt via the cover of Entertainment Weekly. The actor also speaks about being cast as The Man Of Steel..
The film hasn’t begun production yet, but perhaps as a response to the rumors that the movie is having script problems, Warner Bros have decided to issue a pic of Henry Cavill in his Superman persona for the new cover of Entertainment Weekly..
The mag also features some exclusive info and interviews with Cavill and Director Zack Snyder. Here is an excerpt..
Cavill’s audition, which included shooting a screen test wearing a replica of Christopher Reeve’s once impressive, now dated Superman suit. “If you can put on that suit and pull it off,” says Snyder, ‘that’s an awesome achievement.” Cavill was feeling less than super in the moment, at least about his ability to fill out the costume: He had just finished shooting a film with Bruce Willis called The Cold Light Of Day, and the part required to him to shed the impressive abs of steel and muscle tone he had put on for the movie he made right before that, the forthcoming mythic fantasy Immortals. As an assistant helped to him put on the Super-suit, Cavill recalls: “All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready!” Snyder saw something — or rather someone — different. “He walked out, and no one laughed,” says the director. “Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go ‘Wow.’ Okay: This was Superman.’”

“All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go: ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance,’” he says. “The actor inside me was going: ‘You’re not ready! You’re not ready!”
Director Zack Snyder on Cavill being Superman.
“Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors,” says Snyder.
“If you can put on that suit and pull it off, that’s an awesome achievement.”
“Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go ‘Wow. Okay: This was Superman.”
The star has revealed he had to turn Snyder’s project 300 down because he was in contention to play Bond with the man who landed the spy role – Daniel Craig.
“I came very close. The choice was between a younger Bond and a Bond closer to his 30s, which is to say, Daniel Craig.”
But now he’s working with Snyder on the new Superman movie – seven years after he first planned to play the Man of Steel. He was up for the same superhero part when McG was onboard to direct in 2004.
Cavill says
“It was wonderful to have a second stab at a job – and as a wiser, older, more experienced actor.”
Cavill also had this to say on telling his loved ones the news he had the job as Superman.
“I was like, This is ridiculous! I’ve just been given the biggest job in history, and nobody’s picking up their bloody phones.”
The currently Untitled Superman Movie is scheduled for release in early December 2012. Directed by Zack Snyder from a story by Christopher Nolan & David Goyer with screenplay from David Goyer. Henry Cavill stars as Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman. Produced by Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas, Charles Roven.
She served as the model for Superman’s love interest Lois Lane.
Joanne Siegel, the widow of Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel who also served as the model for Superman’s love interest Lois Lane, died Monday at age 93.
Joanne Siegel met her future husband and fellow Superman co-creator Joe Shuster in Cleveland during the 1930s when she was a teen, according to Cleveland’s Plain Dealer. Shuster contacted her after she placed an ad in the Plain Dealer offering to model, but she didn’t realize that she would become the inspiration for Lois Lane.
There reportedly have been many Cleveland women claiming they were the basis for Lois Lane, but Jerry Siegel insisted it was Joanne, while admitting that some of the other women’s traits may have influenced the character as well.
Early on, Jerry Siegel and Shuster tried to sell Superman to newspaper syndicates but failed. They then turned to DC Comics, which bought the character, who made his first appearance in Action Comics No. 1 in 1938.
Ten years later, Jerry Siegel wed Joanne following his divorce from Bella Siegel.
But Jerry Siegel struggled in his career throughout the late 1950s and ’60s, finding it hard to come by work as a comic-book writer. In the late 1970s, as Warner Bros. was gearing up to release a Superman movie, the Siegels convinced DC Comics to give the Superman creators a lifelong stipend.
Jerry Siegel died in 1999. Three years later, the Siegel and Shuster families filed for partial ownership of the character. In 2008, a federal judge ruled that the families do own a large share of Superman, but the litigation against Warner Bros. is ongoing.
The Siegels’ daughter, Laura Siegel Larson, is making the funeral arrangements her mother.
