Robert Rodat to rewrite Thor sequel

Posted on 12 January 2012 by TH3 No08

According to deadline.com Robert Rodat of Saving Private Ryan, The Patriot and the craptactular TNT’s Falling Skies fame is re-writing the sequel to last summer’s blockbuster THOR. Rodat is reworking a draft by Don Payne in the hopes to put the film into production later this year for release in 2013. I would hope that bringing in Rodat would take this film to the next level now that the awkward/semi-forced origin story is out of the way. He has a strong history of good writing that should go a long way to making this better in the long run.

Marvel Studios Moving Forward With Short Films? Agent Coulson To Star In First Two?

Posted on 30 June 2011 by Christian

The rumor of Marvel Studios getting into the business of releasing short films for lesser known characters, a la Pixar, has resurfaced now seeming more plausible! Check it out!

Over a year ago, a huge rumor surfaced suggesting that Marvel Studios was “meeting with writers and directors to work on small scale films based on some of their unknown characters.” While the studios’ president debunked the rumor, he did however reveal his interest in the idea. And now the rumor has resurfaced, via Film School Rejects, not only suggesting the studio has made it more than just an “idea,” but they’ve already filmed two. Read the source’s report below verbatim.

Marvel Studios may be getting into the short film business to help boost their already bustling feature film trade. According to a source close to Marvel Studios, the company is setting some of their staff writers to developing smaller characters in the Marvel universe for future projects. These projects, only proposed as short films at this point, could lead to certain ancillary characters making appearances in future features or even becoming popular enough to headline their own film. hat is certain, though, is that two shorts have already been shot, both featuring actor Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson. These are to be included as special features on the Thor & Captain America DVDs & Blu-Rays that will release later in the year.

Now what may make this plausible; details for THOR‘s Blu-ray release were revealed today, with two mysterious features titled Marvel Studios – The Avengers (Bonus Featurette) and Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant: . Anyhow, the site further states that how well these short films are received, depends on the studios’ decision to move forward with other characters.

Anyhow, if true, THOR hit shelves on DVD/ Blu-ray on September 19th. Also, could the mysterious Isaiah Mustafa-starrer Luke Cage teaser, which it’s creators ordered to be removed, be another one of these shorts? What do you think?

There’s Something About Thor…

Posted on 10 May 2011 by TH3 No08

There’s something about Thor I just couldn’t put my finger on. Something that sat in the pit of my stomach for a couple of days, keeping me from fully recommending this movie to you. It’s not that I didn’t like it. The story was interesting, the characters well developed, the sets were beautiful, even stunning at times. It was well paced, didn’t really get too bogged down in details, honestly I don’t even remember looking at my watch once to see how much movie was left. It actually took me a few days to figure out what the problem was but first lets take a look at what worked for me.

We all know the story of Thor by now from the numerous trailers and tons of promo done for this movie and if you don’t here is a short rundown on the story. Thor is the

Chris Hemsworth Front Runner For Huntsman Role In Snow White Saga

Posted on 03 May 2011 by Christian

Deadline reports that Thor himself Chris Hemsworth is eyeing the male lead in Universal’s Snow White And The Huntsman.

Aside from a few side stories in relation to Viggo Mortenson’s rumored interest in the movie, we haven’t really been covering Universal’s upcoming take on the Snow White tale. Well that may change if Thor star Chris Hemsworth accepts the role of the huntsman..

‘Thor’ star Chris Hemsworth has emerged as a front runner to star in Snow White and the Huntsman, the Universal fairy tale that also Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart. Rupert Sanders is directing. Hemsworth’s stock is up as Thor continues to clean up overseas in anticipation of Friday’s domestic opening for the Kenneth Branagh-directed Marvel film. It isn’t clear yet whether Hemsworth will take that role. Stay tuned.

Word is that although nothing has been signed, the role is his if he wants it. Which leads to possible schedule conflicts as Joss Whedon begins shooting The Avengers. But Variety seems to feel that Universal may well work around Hemsworth’s schedule in order to secure him for the role. In this story, The Hunstsman becomes a protector/mentor to Snow White(Kristen Stewart) when the evil Queen(Charlize Theron) sends him out to the forest to kill her. Aside from that, not much is known for now.

The Poster Wall #6

Posted on 22 April 2011 by TH3 No08

We’ve got a very interesting collection of movie posters this week that’s as varied as it is large. Lots of summer movie stuff in here as well as some cool foreign poster versions. Enjoy…

Up first are a couple of wide format posters for some summer stuff. I’m digging these posters more and more but the number of POTC posters are getting silly.

Up next is a very cool collection of Russian posters for the upcoming movie Cars 2. Very interesting group showing the main locations of the film where the big races take place.

Here’s a couple of the worst movie posters I’ve seen in some time. Basic photo shop skills are lacking here. It’s no coincidence that these posters look very similar to the awful designs of the early Fast 5 posters. The fan made posters for this film were much better than this crap.

Like super hero films? Like foreign versions of posters? Then enjoy these foreign posters for two of the bigger summer movies coming this summer.

Here’s a random group of posters for some smaller films hitting theaters soon. When you’ve got a smaller film it’s even more important that you have a great poster just to draw attention to yourself and these do a great job of that. I’m especially impressed by the Devil’s Double poster. The Devil’s Double is a film chronicling the life of a man drawn into a world of violence and murder when he is cast as the new body double for Uday Hussien

THOR : The God of Thunder featurette

Posted on 04 April 2011 by Christian

“Thunder is good, thunder is impressive; but it is lightning that does the work.’–Mark Twain
With an upcoming movie its good to know your comic book Character – THOR. This feature answers the questions – Who he is? What are his abilities? What are the changes he underwent? Who has portrayed him in Comic Book Movies?

Who is THOR?
THOR is the Asgardian god of thunder who wields a mythical uru hammer, the mighty Mjolnir. He was sent to midgard (earth) by his father, Odin, to learn humility. In his time on midgard, he became one of its greatest hero, fighting in the name of Odin and of Asgard.

THOR is a fictional superhero who first appeared in Marvel Comics Journey into Mystery #83 (August 1962). He was created by editor-plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, and penciller Jack Kirby.Debuting in the Silver Age of Comic Books, the character is based on the THOR of Norse mythology.

What are his powers and abilities?
Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character’s powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

Superhuman Strength: Being the son of Odin and the elder goddess Gaea, THOR is physically the strongest of the Norse gods and one of the most powerful beings in the Universe.

Superhuman Stamina: THOR’s advanced musculature is considerably more efficient than that of a human and most other Asgardians. As a result, his muscles produce practically no fatigue toxins during physical activity compared to those of humans and most other members of his race. He possesses practically inexhaustible stamina. He can exert himself at peak capacity for countless months on end at the very least without tiring at all.

Superhumanly Dense Tissue: THOR’s skin, muscle, and bone tissues have several times the density of the same tissue in the body of a human being, contributing to his superhuman weight.

Self Sustenance: He is capable of surviving in the vacuum of space unaided and does not need air, food, water, or sleep.

Superhuman Longevity: THOR, like all other Asgardians, isn’t immortal. THOR ages at a pace far, far slower than a human being as he is countless eons old; mortals’ life spans are comparable to nothing more than a blink of his immortal eyes.

Superhuman Durability: The tissues of THOR’s body are considerably harder and much more resistant to injury than those of humans. THOR possesses tremendous durability and is practically invulnerable.

Superhuman Speed: THOR’s superhumanly strong legs allow him to run and move at superhuman speeds far greater than the finest human athlete. He is so fast, he is capable of moving at speeds faster than the human eyes can see.

Superhuman Agility: THOR’s agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are far beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.

Superhuman Reflexes: THOR’s reflexes are similarly greatly enhanced and are much more superior to the reflexes of the finest human athlete.

Superhuman Senses: THOR possesses incredible superhuman senses, as he is able to effortlessly see objects as far out as the edge of the Solar System, and hear cries from as far as the other side of the planet.

Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite his astounding resistance to injury, it is possible to injure THOR. In the rare instances that he is injured, his body is capable of repairing damaged tissue with much greater speed and efficiency than the body of a human being and almost all other Asgardians.

Master Combatant: THOR is a superbly skilled warrior trained in the arts of war with over countless years of combat experience. He is one of the most skilled fighters to ever walk the planet.

Master Tactician: For over thousands and thousands of years he has lead Asgard into battle against overwhelming forces with great leadership and employed strategies and tactics from every culture, including forgotten ones.

What are the changes he underwent?

1. First appearance
Since his first appearance Journey into Mystery #83. This costume designed by Jack Kirby is still the main driving force on THOR’s look. Of course the costume has change throughout the decades, but most of the changes derived its look from this classic outfit. Elements of his costume are the winged helmet, the red cape, the metal discs on his upper tunic, and the strapped boots, which pretty much screams Superhero Viking. He has worn this costume since his debut in the 60s and throughout the 80s.

2. Battle armor
In THOR #378 (April 1987), THOR and Tony Stark designed a battle armor that will help hold THOR together after a curse placed on him by Hela made his bones as brittle as glass and unable to heal if damaged. THOR already broke his left arm so he has an armored cast around it. THOR also has to wear a mask and sport beard to cover the scars he has incurred on his face.

3. 1000 years younger
THOR #401 (March 1989), We have a story set in the past where a younger THOR accepts a wager from Loki to travel to Midgard, and join a Viking expedition to the new world. He will not have his power and will be unable to use Mjolnir. If he fails, he will be exiled to Midgard forever and give up all claim to the throne. He wores a more armored costume of his classic look, and he lost the red cape and gained a sword to replace his absent hammer.

4. Back to the Classics
At the tail end of the 80s and in the early days of the 90s THOR is back wearing his classic costume. Though there are times it seems that his upper costume loses the covering on his sides.

Enter the 90s
If you have read my previous articles about characters and their costumes during the 90s then you won’t be surprised as much on the looks that THOR underwent.

5. Godpack
It was during the mid 90s THOR was running around with beings of his peer, the Godpack, and as always when you are among peers there will be peer pressure and THOR has to find a way to fit in, and he got this costume. Metal pants, spiked kneepads, huge shoulder pads, the silver discs are now replaced by yellow octagons and a helmet with a widow’s peak. (Goodtimes) This costume debuted in THOR 475, June 1994

6. Topless
Maybe realizing the ridiculousness of his previous costume, he just said to hell with it I’ll just show my abs. So most of 96 he was running around shirtless.

7. DC Crossover Costume
(THOR then decided
