Who Is Jake Ellis 1 of 5

Who is Jake Ellis 1 of 5

Sponsored by: www.comicbreak.com

Written by: Nathan Edmondson

Art by: Tonci Zonjic

Jon Moore is the most sought after spy-for-hire in Europe’s criminal world. This is because of Jake Ellis, a psychic man who is invisible to everyone except Moore.

When a deal goes bad, the only one who can protect Moore from Europe’s most dangerous criminals is Jake Ellis. No one but Moore can see Jake Ellis.

But Jake Ellis can see everything.

Who Is Jake Ellis? has exactly what I’m always looking for in a comic. It’s short, to the point, superbly drawn, and ends with enough intrigue that I can’t wait to pick up the next issue and jump back into the story.

Who Is Jake Ellis? starts off with a bang. A deal has apparently gone bad leaving our main protagonist Jon to improvise an escape and run for his life. We quickly come to realize that everything is not as it seems with Jon. He is being assisted by a man who may or may not exist only in his mind and who always seems one step ahead of the next situation. The only problem is that Jon doesn’t always listen to the voice in his head and this soon puts him in a very precarious situation. The only way Jon is gonna survive is to put his ego aside and listen to Jake and that may not be easy for a man like him.

I very much enjoyed the story. It was fast paced, didn’t get bogged down in trying to explain every detail and gave just enough information to keep me wondering what was gonna happen next. Jon’s character is a prototypical James Bond type, he loves action and he loves the ladies and those two things seem to get him in one bad situation after another. I’m very interested to see where this story is headed and what the dealio is behind the mysterious Jake Ellis. Is he here to assist Jon and if so why? Is he a tool of someone else, purposely putting Jon in bad spots? Or is he just a product of Jon’s psyche, a damaged man trying to deal with one too many deals gone bad? Only time and future issues will tell.

I enjoyed the cover and art style of this issue as well. The cover was striking, the color and contrast coming together in a perfect match to catch my eye. This art style continues throughout the book drawing your eye from one frame to the next as the story advances. The use of silhouettes and outlines worked great to convey a sense of danger and intrigue as Jon attempts to move in and out of the shadows to escape the men looking to kill him and anyone around him.

Who Is Jake Ellis? is a great example of thinking outside the box and expressing ideas in new and different ways. The story telling, art style, and characters created within the pages of this comic are exceptional and definitely have me interested in checking out future issues of this new and exciting comic.

Episode 22: Noob Radio (yes we changed our name)

Posted on 10 February 2011 by TH3 No08

This week on Noob Radio Richard and Christian discuss why Fox News hates video games, what big name actor is not returning to The Dark Night Rises, and all their favorite movie trailers that premiered during last sunday’s Super Bowl. All this and much much more on this episode of Noob Radio…

We changed the name of our show but everything else is still the same. No reason why, just thought this one sounded cooler…

Here’s this weeks rundown of the show…

Last Sunday was Superbowl regardless of game its about the commercials, 3 million dollars for 30 seconds…
Superbowl commercial favorites…

QUICK HITS…

Movie News…
Liam Neeson Will NOT Return As Ra’s Al Ghul In The Dark Knight Rises, what about Talia Al Ghoul, his estranged daughter and
batman love interest?

Michael Moore suing the Weinsteins
The movie grossed $222 million worldwide and became the top-earning documentary ever; Moore says the profits were supposed to
be split fifty-fifty, but the Weinstein’s used “bogus accounting methods” to funnel money to their own expenses, including
trips to Europe via private jet…
will this eventually lead to the studios being investigated for this type of accounting?

James Franco in Early Talks for ‘Oz’ After Johnny Depp Passes
The Oscar-nominated host of the Academy Awards is in early talks to star in Oz, the Great and Powerful, Disney’s prequel-ish
take onThe Wizard of Oz tale being directed by Sam Raimi.
is he too young for the role of the great oz? does anyone really care about the wizard of oz world anymore?

Video Games…
Fox News has warned parents off of the upcoming M-rated game Bulletstorm (calling it “the worst video game in the world”),
alleging that it and other games in the same vein are directly responsible for an increase in the incidence of rape.
first off bullet storm doesn’t even come out untile feb 22, how can it be responsible for rape when only a few people have
even played the game? do games make you violent? i’ve played violent games since 1985, the first video game i ever played, duck hunt, i spent hours trying to figure out how to shoot the dog who laughed at me when i missed, but i never omitted a violent act against another person that was even remotely inspired by a video game.

LG Wants PS3 Sales Banned in the U.S.
says sony violate several patents including the bluray player in the ps3, this comes after several back and forth lawsuits as
they each sued each other over various components they say violate each others patents…
what happens if LG wins and ps3s are banned, does the sky fall in? do they stop selling ps3 games?

Television News…
Super Bowl XLV averaged 111 million viewers and netted 162.9 total viewers, breaking the previous record for the most-watched
TV program in history. The game also had a 71 share — meaning that more than two-thirds of the televisions being watched in the country at that time were watching the Super Bowl on the Fox network. That’s the highest audience share for a Super Bowl since 1982, a time when there were far fewer television networks as competition. what makes the superbowl the biggest draw in tv? everybody else in television is down in rating yet the superbowl continues to rise… cosby at it’s height was 25 million viewers, now american idol is tops but barely gets 15 million viewers..
is it the influence of the internet, or is the amount of channels available?

The New York Five: 1 of 4

Posted on 06 February 2011 by TH3 No08

The New York Five: 1 of 4
sponsored by: ComicBreak.com

Written by BRIAN WOOD
Art by RYAN KELLY
Cover by BRIAN WOOD & RYAN KELLY

Summery:

There’s nothing more exciting than college life in the big city. But complications can follow you from dark places – and not just from your boring hometown. In THE NEW YORK FIVE, Riley’s sister Angie is making a name in the Lower East Side with her new band, and now Riley is the black sheep of the family. Lona’s murky past appears to have been hiding an alarming proficiency for stalkerism, and Merissa and Ren will confront uncomfortable situations involving older men. But who is the “five” in THE NEW YORK FIVE? Find out as Vertigo reunites this cast with its stellar creative team of Brian Wood (DEMO, DMZ, NORTHLANDERS) and Ryan Kelly (LUCIFER, Local) in this standard-sized 4-issue miniseries.

The New York Five is an interesting case of a comic missing it’s mark by just enough the it doesn’t really find a home in the market that may have been interested in it. If it was meant for the female comic fan then I’m not sure they understand what female comic fans are looking for. The New York Five (written by Brian Wood) seems to be full of stereotypes of women that men wish were surrounding them at all times but just don’t really exist in real life. The lusty latina, Merissa Vasquez, struggling to keep her family together while juggling her multiple lovers. The Canadian fish out of water Lona Lo who just can’t seem to find her place in the world, and even the estranged sisters Riley and Angie Wilder who seem to always find themselves being manipulated by the same man. All stereotypes you’d see on any soap opera just not any where in real life.

It is a comic and I understand what they were trying to do and it’s what all comic writers are trying to do, tell an interesting story with interesting characters and keep people coming back every month again and again but to do that I believe you have to have a little truth in your characters not just stereotypes of people you’ve seen on reality shows or television and I found that little bit of truth lacking.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not a bad comic. It’s beautifully drawn and worth a pick up if just for the art. I particularly enjoyed the stark black and white images with the hints of pan-tone in the shadows, the beautifully emotive eye’s, and city-scapes that pop right off the page. Ryan Kelly did a great job of illustrating Brian Woods story and based on the artwork alone I’d certainly be interested in checking out episode number 2.

So if your looking for a beautifully drawn comic about hot chicks with problems living in the hippest city in the U.S. then by all means check it out. Just be prepared for a little soap opera mixed in with your usual comic book fare.

Here’s some of the great art from The New York Five…

[Rec] Genesis casting news…

Posted on 28 January 2011 by TH3 No08

A few years ago I stumbled across the small spanish horror movie [REC]. It was a verite style horror movie, filmed from various helmet cameras and television cameras to capture the action taking place in a small apartment complex as a zombie/demon/rabies outbreak happened. It was awesome, I loved it, I couldn’t wait to see the sequel [REC] 2 when it was announced and I was not dissappointed when I did see it. Now I’m equally excited to see that they are moving forward with two more films that will fill in the gaps between the first two films as well as spread the story to the world outside the apartment building. Let the awesomeness ensue…

Via geektyrant.com

Blooding-Disgusting has reported that Leticia Dolera has been cast alongside Diego Martin for [REC] Genesis. Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero will split directing duties for the final two films in the franchise, [REC] Genesis and [REC] Apocalypse.

Plaza will direct [REC] Genesis, which will return to the origin of the original infection that caused humans to turn into zombies and is scheduled to hit in the fall. [REC] Apocalypse will be directed by Balaguero and will end the [REC] series with the pandemic spreading to unknown proportions and is scheduled to hit in the fall of 2012.

Plot:

The action in [REC] GENESIS encompasses the events of the first two films and after the sense of claustrophobia previously experienced. The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment – the future [REC] Apocalypse.

New Battle: Los Angeles poster foreshadows global invasion…

Posted on 25 January 2011 by TH3 No08

Jonathan Liebesman’s Battle: Los Angeles will be dropping soon and the posters just keep getting better. I was thinking this movie was gonna be on a smaller scale but things are looking bigger and bigger with each bit of info we get.

The action epic stars Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Pena, and Bridget Moynahan and hits theaters on March 11th, 2011.

Synopsis:

For years there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world – Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011 what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It’s up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they’ve ever encountered before.

Kevin Smith turns Sundance on it’s head…

Posted on 24 January 2011 by TH3 No08

There was a lot of hype and hyperbole leading up to Kevin Smith’s premiere of Red State at Sundance and all that quickly became an afterthought when Smith told Hollywood to go fuck itself and bought his own distribution right for 20$. Smith had announced earlier in the year that he would auction of the rights to his movie directly after the premiere and drew a ton of interest for what was sure to be a public spectacle and did not disappoint.

When can you see Red State? Well if you’re willing to shell out anywhere from  $50 – $100 you can see it starting in March.  Smith is hoping his fans will flock to see the personalized experience of him and the star doing a live chat after watching the movie and this will somehow help him make back his 4 million dollar budget before it ever goes into theaters this fall without doing traditional marketing of press.

See all the details here.

Here is the full list of dates and locations:

March 5th – Radio City Music Hall
March 6th – Wilbur Theater in Boston
March 8th – Harris Theater in Chicago
March 9th – State Theater in Minneapolis
March 10th – Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor
March 11th – Indianapolis, IN
March 12th - Midland Theater, Kansas City
March 14th – Springfield, OH
March 22nd – Paramount Theater, Denver
March 26th - McCalister theater, New Orleans
March 28th – Paramount Theater, Austin

Kill BIll Volume III?

Posted on 21 January 2011 by TH3 No08

Looks like Quentin Tarantino is getting back into the Kill Bill game soon. He posted on his twitter earlier Kill Bill Volume III followed by “The Bride Shall Fight Once More”. Looks like he’s prepping to shoot with a 2013 release date. I love Q.T.’s work especially Kill Bill I and II.  Quentin posted a PDF on his twittter earlier with an outline of what the teaser could look like and I have to say I’m freaking stoked. I’m gonna go watch Kill Bill while you guys read this. Enjoy…

Bruce Willis to expand role in next installment of Expendables…

Posted on 18 January 2011 by TH3 No08

Apparently while he was being ridiculed by Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes over the weekend, Bruce Willis had other things on his mind, mainly the fact that he would be joining Sylvester Stallone for the sequel to Expendables. Stallone has previously stated on his twitter account that Willis would have a much larger role to play in the sequel and it looks like it’s gonna happen soon. When speaking to Yahoo after the globes he had this to say…

“Apparently it’s going to happen this year,” he said.

When asked if he will be in it — as has been rumored — Bruce confirmed the news.

“As far as I know, barring any unforeseen circumstances, but yeah, I would love to be a part of it,” he said.

It also looks like Jean Claude Van Damme will be joining the fray as well, as long as Steven Segal isn’t involved. Apparently they don’t play nice together.

Wicked new Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows poster inside

Posted on 18 January 2011 by TH3 No08

This from the guys over at Geek Tyrant, an awesome take on the forthcoming sequel to HP and the DH. This thing oozes doom and gloom while being covered in artistic badassery. It does a great job of capturing the darkness and sadness that runs throughout the final book in the series that the part one of the movie was never able to capture.  This is what movie posters should look like. Go pick one up now…

The 11 x 17 limited print is currently available for only $25 and includes free shipping @ http://frodesignstore.blogspot.com/2010/11/these-are-dark-times.html

UPDATE!!!!! UPDATE!!! A better look at Chris Evans as Captian America

Posted on 13 January 2011 by TH3 No08

Here’s a higher rez/better quality version of the picture we posted yesterday. Still looks great, still don’t know what the hell those guys behind him are…

Lets round out today’s costume reveals with the tri-fecta. Here’s a scan of an Entertainment Weekly photo from aintitcool.com featuring  Chris Evans as Captain America.  Of the three costumes revealed today this is by far the most awesome of the group. Chris Evans as the classic Captain America is really working for me. This goes to the top of movies I’m looking forward to this year. Anybody have any idea what’s going on with the robot looking guys behind him?

First look @ Andrew Garfield as Spiderman

Posted on 13 January 2011 by TH3 No08

Here’s the first look at Andrew Garfield as the new Spiderman. I like the look of the costume. The texture and material looks very cool. I was expecting a more spandex style fabric but this is very nice. It certainly looks better than the first look we got earlier today of the Sinestro costume.

A first look at Sinestro from the Green Lantern movie…

Posted on 13 January 2011 by TH3 No08

This comes courtesy of the french site Cineheros. The actual character and suit designs looks all digital and fake much like the other green lantern suits but he does look like the comic version of Sinestro. I’ll try and hold off judgement of this movie until i see it but i’ve been a bit underwhelmed by the what I’ve see of it so far…

For all you Dexter fans out there who have been having trouble keeping track of  the who, what, when, and why’s of his victims, here is a handy piece of art created by Shahed Syed. It’s a visual representation of all his kills over the past several seasons that will allow you to make sense of it all. Just something cool to look at while we all wait with baited breath for next seasons premiere. Enjoy!
